94 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 drinktomymood (16) Virginia | October 1, 2011 I love this concept, all of the environmentally friendly ideas, composting, more drafts than bottles, locally sourced food. Sat outside it is a lovely little block with the dog park across the street. Nice place to hang out with friends. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 Iphonephan (77) Virginia | January 8, 2013| Updated January 9, 2013 Lots of taps and some interesting bottles. Here for a special event of aged beers and sour ales. Fantastic selection on draft and cask. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 argo0 (206) Washington DC | August 16, 2012| Updated January 9, 2013 Long overdue to rate this great place. Great beer selections, knowledgeable staff, excellent food. Also has a solid neighborhood feel to it (if only it was in my neighborhood). Only three blocks from the Columbia Heights Metro station. Prices feel a bit expensive, but no complaints -- well worth a visit. | 86 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 JulienHuxley (133) Trois-Rivieres, Quebec | August 25, 2012| Updated January 9, 2013 Nice place I was taken to by some people I just met on a Saturday afternoon. Cool beer bar, I can’t say the atmosphere was incredible but it was just a nice bar. The staff was super friendly and service was really good. They had a huge tap selection and tons of craft bottles, all US for what I saw. Food was good, ifa bit pricey. Definitely a beer place, take a look. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 18/20 Drink4Satan (29) Washington, Washington DC | August 11, 2011| Updated January 9, 2013 This is a great neighborhood bar with the best beer bar ambiance in the city. During the summer, the outdoor patio is a great time. The inside seating is cozy, clean, and offers tons of options depending on how many people your rolling with. The tap list rotates constantly with only a couple permanent taps. The creative new American cuisine is prepared with nice presentation and tastes fresh. The staff is more than happy to give you a tour of the cellar downstairs and geek out a bit. The bottom level is more like a sports bar/ lounge/ pool hall. Lots of places to lock your bike up outside. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 KUEric (111) Washington, Washington DC | January 30, 2011| Updated September 27, 2012 I liked this place, but didn’t love. In the Columbia Heights are which isn’t exactly a beer or bar haven. The ’personal’ taps at the tables very cool. The beer list while not world-class is pretty good quality of microbrews. Solid service, but something (the concrete floors, the somewhat isolated bar location) just made the ambiance less than great. As a marketing guy I appreciate the way they advertising on all of the major DC blogs. It’s a little pricey which I would have hoped for cheap given the neighborhood.
Also they hold a fair amount of beer events and having Olivers on cask is a very nice touch.
ReRate: These guys have become the best (non-Churchkey) beer bar in the city, maybe tied with Pizza Paradisio. They do however have the best beer events in the city (again, maybe outside of Churchkey). The kick the keg tuesdays and the home brewer hostings are awesome. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 BlakesPint (1) , | April 16, 2012| Updated September 27, 2012 Great Patio and good casks. Service was good, food was good. Very happy with the beer selection and the staff knowledge on it. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 16/20 JoeinEscazú (268) San Jose, Costa Rica | September 6, 2010| Updated August 31, 2012 Lively place in the evening with a well-chosen draft list that has something for everyone. Taps were on the tables in the basement bar. Tasty beer-friendly pub food. Manages to keep two or three sub-4.5% beers on most of time, often including something from Oliver’s Ales. Casks, sometimes. Was here soon after they opened, and liked it even better two years later. Might make it my local, if I were local. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | March 14, 2011| Updated August 31, 2012 Fairly big place for DC, two dozen taps upstairs, and more downstairs with 2 beers per table in personal table-taps. Sadly, no Olivers beers were available when I visited - no delivery, apparently. The burger I had was outstanding, with near-perfect onion rings. Staff were helpful and friendly, and generous with samples. Definitely worth a stop. | 76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 tastybeer (28) Bloomington, Indiana | March 19, 2012| Updated August 31, 2012 Nice bar off the beaten path in Columbia Heights. About a 10-15 minute walk from the CH metro. Small upstairs with a larger basement but is usually very crowded in both. Draft list is usually among the best in town and prices are reasonable. Bottle is small but contains a few rarities. Frequently hosts tap takeovers of DC grey market beers. Service is usually good to OK - bartenders are quick and servers are attentive. The food here is better than most pubs but I don’t really come here to eat. Overall, a nice place with a good selection but get here early to beat the crowd on the weekend. |
