60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 12/20 3fourths (1082) Straßgiech, Germany | May 22, 2012| Updated October 3, 2012 superb tap list for sure, though not being a huge fan of Mikkeller leaves me fewer options. vintage bottles were either all gone on my visit due to fest-goers in town, or the staff simply blew me off (read: lied) about availability likely because they’ve been hounded in recent days for vintage bottles. so, if you know the secret handshake or perhaps grab the bartender’s time and bug them enough, you’ll have good luck. but if they tell you something is out, they’re likely not being completely honest. that’s how it goes, though. ambiance would be better if it weren’t packed with beer geeks all the time. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 17/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | May 13, 2012| Updated October 3, 2012 We visited on the Wednesday night before CBC and the Sunday night after it, I’m sure this is an entirely different place when it’s crowded, but it was chill and mellow for both of our visits. Staff were terrific, and the beer, of course was very good. Pricey, but that’s to be expected. Around CBC, this was the Who’s Who hangout for brewers and beer personalities. | 90 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 19/20 pivnizub (425) Bochum, Porúří, Germany | July 26, 2012| Updated October 3, 2012 I guess that all is said about this place… Many people like it, some people do not…
I enjoyed my visit to this bar; only 500 metres from our Hotel Savoy! Very good! | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 19/20 womencantsail (390) Garbage Grove, California | October 3, 2012| Updated October 3, 2012 Really small bar with 20 taps on and an enormous bottle list. Fun little place, but get there early or you’ll be struggling to find a place to sit or stand. Friendly service, half decent prices, and they will do small sample sized pours which is nice. They do have some little snacks at the bar, but nothing you could really make a meal of. | 84 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 19/20 Leighton (389) London, England | May 12, 2012 Yes, this place has phenomenal selection, in bottles and on draft. You thought bottles of Hill Farmstead were only available at the brewery? They have about six different HF beers here. The draft selection is great. The prices are pretty high given that most beers come in small (i.e. about a 1/3 of a pint) pours, while the cost stays at about what you would normally pay for a half or even, in some cases, a full pint. The place itself, though, leaves a bit to be desired. It’s pretty small, the limited seating fills up quickly and then there really isn’t much room to stand. On a Saturday night (weekend of CBC) they had only three guys working the bar (this might be the max given that the bar is tiny), which resulted in waiting times of 20-30 minutes to get a beer. To me, that’s a pretty bad wait to get a beer. I’m sure that in the afternoon this bar is perfect for sitting and enjoying a beer, but with the nighttime crowds it’s intolerable. The bartenders were pleasant, though. I would definitely come back here, but probably never after 6pm or so. | 84 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 17/20 Boudicca (373) London, England | July 6, 2011| Updated May 17, 2013 It’s difficult to know what to say about the Mikkeller bar. We visited several times during the Copenhagen Beer Festival week and probably saw it at both its best and its worst. There was a real buzz – it was like being at a private party with all your favourite beer friends and for me this was great but, had I not known anyone there, I think I’d have felt a little excluded.
It was also very crowded, with people spilling out into the street (and being corralled back in again when the police arrived asking us to keep the noise down), and there can’t be a lot of space at the best of times. The bar is in an unassuming basement quite close to the fabled red light district. There are two rather bare, minimalist rooms with a few tables and a couple of nooks and crannies at the back. There’s a high bar and low lighting.
Needless to say, the beer on offer is outstanding. The 20 beers are listed on the blackboard – mainly Mikkeller with a few tremendous guests.
I was so sorry to hear that the Mikkeller bar and Olbutikken were badly damaged in the floods at the weekend (Saturday 2 July 2011). This is very bad news indeed, and I send all good wishes to Mikkel and Jeppe for the recovery. I understand that, as of yesterday (Tuesday 5 July), Olbutikken is open again but Mikkeller is still closed.

| 60 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 4/10 VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 9/20 Ungstrup (345) Citizen of the universe, Denmark | September 10, 2010| Updated May 4, 2011 I’m not that impressed with this place. The best thing about this bar is that the selection is good, no actually great, and I was so lucky to get a small sample of End of the World. But the service is lacking. The place is so loud, that it is very difficult to have a conversation in the place if more than 10 people is present. The sausages they sell are very spicy, so they don’t go with the beers if you come to rate the beers - not the right choice in a beer bar in my opinion. And the prices are the highest for beer bars in Copenhagen. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 GT2 (345) Riverslime, California | May 16, 2012 Very small, super cramped place packed at night but chill during the day. Ferocious tap list keg turnover. 20+ beers on tap changing out almost daily. Enormous bottle list. Mikkeller X BA 2007 Imperial Stout was on the list for $800. Mikkeller X Calvados Imperial Stout was on there for $140. J&J Rose and J&J Blauw were both on the list for $180 each which is sort of a steal in my opinion for the Rose. Pretty sure so was Cantillon Blabaer and some other rarities but priced at equilibrium. Staff is knowledgeable, quick. Prices fair for Copenhagen. Certainly not cheap. I went here 3 days out of 6 in CPH. So that gives you an idea of how quickly the tap list changed. Cantillon Vigneronne on tap is hard to beat. "Food" offered is a medley of very nice smoked or super spicy sausages and sweet gherkins. Very nice palate shockers/cleansers. No real food, just those things. Very trendy place. A must visit. Homely. Loved it. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 rosenbergh (334) Helsinki, Finland | September 11, 2010 15 taps of which 10 Mikkellers. Tuesday afternoon very quiet only 1 customer besides us. Quite odd location but quite near Istedgade which is known of... Bartender knew everything. Absolutely brilliant service. Amazing selection of bottles (more than Mikkellers). | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 Rune (319) Tromsø, Norway | May 29, 2010 Free beers at the grand reception during the opening on Wednesday 5th of May. With 15 interesting beers on taps, often supported by a few surprises and a great range of only top quality ales in bottles, this is, of course, beer paradise. Attentive and easy going staff to a very comfortable atmosphere. And there is always some other happy drinking ratebeerians to talk to. (Visited several times in early May 2010). |
