56 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 12/20 auerbrau (278) Peace Dale, Rhode Island | November 21, 2006 My reivew of this place may come as unwelcomed, but I just wasn’t all that impressed of what some think is the best of the best. The place seemed tired and tacky. The facade was too artifically created. Service was gruff and indignant. Smoke prevailed. Food was far from gourmet, as my Black Bean Burger reeked of hurry up and who cares. In the beer line, creativity missed the boat. My mild was exemplary, but the price was high. Milwaukee could do better, but in a town where Miller is king, maybe this is as good as it gets. | 60 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 11/20 muzzlehatch (255) Burlington, Vermont | December 10, 2004 Perhaps I caught them on an off day or week? My impression (July 04): very boring selection..amber, blonde, light etc; when an APA is the most "interesting" style you may have problems. Only the hefe was above average; food (pizza) quite mediocre. Ambience (huge airy old warehouse with a cool balcony over the not-so-scenic river) and service were both good though, so I’d think about returning... | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 esjaygee (236) Oak Creek, Wisconsin | August 21, 2009 This place has a rustic feel to it, with tons of wood décor and a nice location right on the Milwaukee river. They had a decent selection of taps with three seasonal offerings and two cask conditions beers. Since I went on a Thursday it was $2.50 imperial pints all night long and the two I had were both decent. Our waitress was very friendly, though her beer knowledge wasn’t the greatest. I had a Bacon Bleu Cheese burger and an eggplant appetizer and both were excellent. They have lots of free concerts, but the band that was playing on my visit wasn’t my pint of ale and I had to shout over them at times. A drawback, IMO, is that they allow smoking in the bat. Overall, I still enjoyed my time here and will make it a point to come back on a somewhat regular basis. | 52 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 11/20 savnac (226) Anchorage, Alaska | December 29, 2011 Was here on a crowded weekend night. Big, open place that is fairly clean. We had terrible service, it took us about 30 minutes to get our beers. Selection of beers was not too good, they 6 beers that were all pretty mediocre. Didn’t eat here because of the bad service, had our beers and left. Prices seemed alright. Not a place I’d go out of my way for. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 GeneralGao (222) Iowa City, Iowa | November 22, 2006 Visited this place at lunch time on a weekday. They had 6 house beers on tap the day I visited and I had a sampler with a brat. Overall, the beers were decent. I’d like to try more of their seasonal offerings. Service was good and location along the riverwalk is nice. | 62 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 11/20 hopdog (222) Lansdale, Pennsylvania | July 12, 2005| Updated July 16, 2006 Ate outside in the river (although your view of the industrial area isn’t the best, it was nice eating outside on the water). Only 6 beers + 1 cask on the menu and they were out of their session beer! Dissapointing. Food was good. Rerate - revisted on 7/17/06. Only 1 sessonal on tap. Service was better than first time. | 78 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 ElGaucho (207) Minnetonka, Minnesota | June 16, 2007| Updated July 16, 2006 How you can say anything other than 5 for ambiance is beyond me. There’s an outdoor patio overlooking the river. The inside is upscale, clean, and cozy. Really nice place. Service was excellent. They gave my son crayons, were nice to him, etc. They brought ketchup without us having to ask, and didn’t have it sitting outside in the searing heat. They have their stuff together. His chicken fingers weren’t dry and the dipping sauce was good. My chicken quesadilla was excellent with a phenomenal dipping sauce. Beer selection is limited and beer quality is perhaps only above average, but nevertheless, a must stop when in Milwaukee. | 66 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 JK (206) Uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota | July 20, 2009| Updated October 3, 2009 Nice place in an old building with a view of the river in back. Service was friendly but didn’t seem to know a lot about beer. Moderate prices and ok beer. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 deyholla (200) Oklahoma City, Oklahoma | May 17, 2012| Updated October 3, 2009 A nice place in the third ward. Great seating outside over looking the water with a large bar feel in side. Wide range of beers that seem to rotate rather quickly. Food was nice but not outstanding and service was a touch slow. Prices were a touch pricey but it is in an nicer area of Milwaukee. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 NobleSquirrel (200) Chicago, Illinois | February 28, 2012| Updated October 3, 2009 Was here for the Beer Barons competition judging. Had the fortune to also visit the bar and have dinner. Food is a good blend of pub food, well made though nothing crazy. Beer selection is probably 12 deep with a lot of rotating selections. The beers coming out of the brewpub kit are pretty solid overall. Worth checking out. |
