78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 shoulderbroken (119) Tokyo, Japan | August 11, 2012 Worth the trip to Fujisawa from Tokyo. Nice modern decor bar. Seems like you have to book normally, but on a Saturday mid afternoon we were ok. Good variety of Shonan beers, will definitely head back to try them all as we were only making a flying visit. Bottles for takeaway available too. 4 types when we were there. Tasters, small and large glasses and pitchers available. The small were around 500 yen and the large about 700. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 nate2g (441) Boomtown! / Waikato, New Zealand | June 28, 2012 Lovely restaurant with ground floor dedicated to the bar/kitchen and small amount of seating. Upstairs is more open with large tables perfect for sharing with friends and strangers. The draw here though is the beers. Shonan is very impressive. Easily some of the top beers in Japan. Had no dramas with staff - they were courteous and attentive. As Jonno mentioned, the glassware could be improved. Top notch for sure. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 jonno (105) , Japan | June 25, 2012 It’s a bit out of the way in Fujisawa, but it’s a great little place. Nice, earthy decor, attentive service and some excellent beer. Food was decent, if nothing amazing and prices were reasonable (for Japan). top stop. All beers, regardless of style, are served in flutes though (but this is a tiny issue in the scheme of things). | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 TimE (216) Tokyo, Japan | May 13, 2012 Excellent. A few minutes walk from Fujisawa station. 11 taps plus one hand pump when we were there. Beer was average to world class - Belgian Stout (as far as I am concerned). Most beers were solidly above average. Excellent service - we bitched about the head on the Belgian Stout and instantly they took the beer away and filled it up properly. Nice atmosphere. We went there after hiking near Hakone and clearly we were not the only hikers to stop over there on the way back from Tokyo. Lots of wood and exposed concrete on first floor, but well designed. 2nd floor has a lot more tables, but feels more cramped. Downside of this place - no English Menu and take out bottles are limited to three varieties - I was REALLY hoping they had the Belgian Stout in bottles. Still, this place is top notch and if you love beer and you are going to Hakone or anywhere not too far south of Yokohama, this is a must visit. I was very impressed and unfortunately, I will need to spend money to come back, all the way from Tokyo. Top notch. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 KyotoLefty (350) Kyoto, Japan | January 24, 2012| Updated May 31, 2012 Nice ambiance in this place, woody and cozy. Pretty much the same food menu as at the Trattoria Mokichi. At least twice as many Shonan beers, though, makes this much the better place for beery visits. Two negatives. The staff when we went was horrible: scowling faces, really sloppy pours, bitching about their job in front of us. Ruined the visit. Second is that 5 taps were open. What a waste! I hope they eventually fill them with guest beers. Still new, though, so I hope they can work out the kinks because Shonan on tap is wonderful and this place is much more convenient than the brewery. |
