This brewery is trying to decide if it wants to focus on brewing good beer or serving exceptional beer. The atmosphere was great and they had some rare bottle selections. The pale ales and IPA’s stood out, but the rest of the house made beer was just normal. The open air style is pure San Diego

Doesn’t look like much from outside, but pretty nice interior. Not really in the best part of the city. A long bar with a very nice draft selection and some good whiskeys. Pretty good service, the food smelled quite good, though it was typical pub food. House beers are okay on the whole. Some really nice ones and some that are just okay. The only gripe I had was that they won’t do half pours--only full pours or samples of house beers.

In a shady part of town, but no biggie. Walk in, it’s a dive bar feel. Sit down at the bar to order a sampler, the bartender knows her stuff! She explains all of their (7) beers on tap. I ask for a menu, she hands me a paper that is wrinkled up and grease all over it. It was all greasy pub food. She tells me to order at the window, I look over and see this guy in a little room. Decided to NOT order food. The sampler came, of the 4 beers, 1 was OK, 1 was terrible, the other two were below average. I then order a Left Coast Berliner Weisse, it was also pretty bad and tasted a lot like their house beer that I couldn’t finish. Dirty lines?
I would pass this one up.
They did have a great list of beers on tap, but I’d rather go to Toronado’s. A good selection of beers in the cooler (this would be a good choice if I ever go again, but won’t)

place looks awesome, only had a beer because even though their website did not mention it, NO KIDS ALLOWED. Kind of irritated that a place that sells food doesn’t allow kids, but if that’s your policy please do everyone a favor and post it so a trip isn’t wasted. Had the IPA in a hurry to rejoin my family. Cool spot, nice staff, prices seemed reasonable and menu looked good. Sad I couldn’t try more.

This place is a kick, sitting on the edge of downtown and skid row! Park on the north side and you will be fine. Great selection of Monkey Paw’s own brew, plus a sizable amount of guest taps. Bartender knew her stuff, the food guys were friendly, and everyone seemed happy. The food we had was good pub grub, waffle fries, veggies cheese and chicken. It is for sure a stop if you are down in SD as the beer is very good.

Grungy place with a relaxed vibe and a very diverse group of customers. Lots of good taps, both house and guest, and a huge cooler stocked with a bunch of tasting-looking stuff. I dug the place a lot, and most of the house beers were pretty good.

Nice busy pub with 6-7 taps of their own brews. They do flights for $6 for 4 glasses. Didnt try their food. The area has a few homeless people lying around on the pavement, but nothing that I would worry about.

A bit loud (good music though) and in quite a rough neighborhood (lots of homeless people) but very nice ambiance and good selection of draft beers. Very tasty sandwiches and waffle fries cheap and beers are also quite cheap. Their own beers are quite nice as well.

Been coming here since they opened in late summer and it’s become the most frequented of places on my rotation...its close-ish to my house, has a nice vibe and isn’t filled with neighborhood stereotypes since it’s in a part of downtown no one really lives in, theres always something good on tap, and they have awesome fucking cheesesteaks. The headbrewer, Derek Freese, is gonna bust out some amazing beers in the future guaranteed...even his first few beers on their system are tasting nice, but he’s got some serious talent to unleash onto san diego, I actually brewed my first all grain batch with him in his garage, which turned out wonderful. Definitely my favorite amongst scott blairs beer bars, and the fact that its a brewpub with a talented brewer, will only make this place continue to shine.
