80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 1/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 20/20 mnmike (31) Minnesota | March 30, 2013 Awesome selection. Cantillon, Lambic Faros, Surly, etc. Food is limited but great. No table service - you have to get up and order food and drinks at the bar. Service was pretty bad for me. Ordered a Lambic Faro for $9 - they broke the bottle top and tried to talk me into drinking it anyways saying it was a clean break. Then tried to guilt me into buying another bottle by saying the server would have to pay for it out of her own paycheck. Still recommend it though. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 SHIG (178) Anchorage, Alaska | April 8, 2012 What a hidden gem. My wife found this place while surfing for beer near our hotel in Sioux Falls. Glad she did. Selection is amazing. Staff is all about the beer. A must stop if driving through South Dakota. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 Mijahraus (12) Orlando, Florida | February 24, 2012 Wish this place would have existed when I lived in South Dakota. Went here on my last visit. I will definitely make a stop here each time I am back in Sioux Falls. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 TheRealMGD (58) Lakewood, Washington | June 28, 2011 Found Monk’s via RB and thank god for it! On a recent US road trip I stopped on my way east and on my way back, enjoying both of my stays immensely and looking forward to my next visit already! The neighborhood is sort of an industrial/rail area, but I didn’t perceive any issues there. Ambience in the pub is super: the bar is lovely and cozy while there is heaps of seating elsewhere and a large patio. The crowd is very cool and mostly beer aficionados. I sat at the bar both times and thought service was both attentive and informed. On my second visit I chatted with the owner a bit and learned a lot about some very good midwest breweries that were little-known to me. Pricing is about standard for the midwest, which means Monk’s is an excellent value considering their selection. It’s reassuring to see that folks interested in drinking good beer in Sioux Falls can do so at a minimal premium over what they’d be paying for yellow fizzy beer. Handles are well- and lesser-known midwest stalwarts and bottle selection is quite varied. They put on whatever they can get from their distributors. A mandatory stop for ale lovers tripping through the region. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 irsbrt (1) Sioux Falls, | February 8, 2011 Situated in downtown area near the old railroad yards, inside of an old brick building. Building must have lots of history. Many different selections from around the world. | 94 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 hero12 (2) Minnesota | May 3, 2010 Great atmosphere, not a bunch of kids, just people enjoying beer and conversation. Music is not overwhelming, and the atmosphere is very nice. Service is tremendous, they know their beer and wine. They have a decent menu of appetizers and pizza, but I’ve never tried the food. The selection is great, menu has beers divided by country, easily the best selection in town. It is almost the same price on most beers if picked up by the bottle at a retailer, good value here. Overall the best place in town to relax and enjoy a few good brews. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 kyzr (19) Belgrade, Montana | June 23, 2009 For Sioux Falls, this place rocked. Well worth a stop for Surly on tap. Had 5 different Surly’s on tap along with a few Belgiums. Good staff that had suggestions and answers. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 MrBendo (16) Swedesboro, New Jersey | August 17, 2008| Updated August 19, 2008 A very good beer-geek bar new to my hometown. Probably the best bottle list in South Dakota, with carry-out optional at a 25% discount. The only place in SD that I’ve seen Jolly Pumpkin bottles. About 100-150 bottles to choose from, mostly representing Europe and American microbrews.
Also have about 10 beers on tap, and no macro-fillers.They even have their own SD-made beers on site. (I would have had one, but they were out at the time)
They have a cook, but only on certain nights. Bartender was knowledgeable about bottle selection, but his statement that Bam Biere tastes ’like sweaty feet’ definitely didn’t do much to convert anyone in my group. | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 Bourbonator (1) | December 28, 2007| Updated August 19, 2008 Only in business for a week, Monk’s comes out of the gate strong with it’s great atmosphere, fantastic selection, and exceptional service. Monk’s is non-smoking and has nice, comfortable furnishings and decor. Kick back on the couch or in the leather chairs around the fireplace and peruse the extensive selection of beers on the menu. Certainly the best selection of belgians and imports in Sioux Falls with a generous splattering of american Micros to round things out. Every beer I ordered was served in style-appropriate glassware. The attentive and personable staff made some excellent recommendations for me. I’ll definitely be back. |
