74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Dogbrick (561) Columbus, Ohio | February 18, 2013 (Visited 01/2013): Moon River Brewing Company is in downtown Savannah on West Bay right by the river in the historic district. Street parking is available in the surrounding streets, and there are a couple garages in walking distance.
The interior features a large segmented room with the wraparound bar immediately past the host stand in the center. There is table and booth seating on the right, and more in the rear. The brewing equipment is behind glass along the left wall. Funky artwork on the walls, and some merch in the rear.
Moon River has around 10 of their beers on tap, and they offer a moon-shaped sampler. The beers are decent for the most part and include a lot of common styles plus a couple interesting brews like Jasmine Saison and OMG (Oh My Grapefruit) on my visit.
Service on our slow lunch visit was good. The server was knowledgeable about the beers and friendly.
Food at Moon River is pretty good, both my colleague and I enjoyed our lunch.
Overall this is a nice spot in a great town. | 64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 tia (66) Sandston, Virginia | July 16, 2012 Stopped in while on vacation- it was a Saturday and the place was packed- the vibe was like a busy Applebee’s or something even though the artwork on the walls was trying for something better. Service was fine but unenthusiastic (again, packed, and there were lots of screaming kids in our section). We got the array in a sampler- which we enjoyed. My husbands food was really good, mine was kind of blah. Prices seemed decent. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 UnholyBrewing (26) Central Florida(Upper Hell), Florida | June 4, 2012 ...went in there to try some brews and had a little food. The brewery was right there with open windows so you could see them working in there. Not many on tap, but my fav was the wit. Food was pretty good as well. | 52 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 9/20 rdixon77 (11) Georgia | June 1, 2012 I was a little weary after my last visit there which I had some kind of bland and generic brews. I was pleasantly surprised by this trip. A neat place and I love the ghost storied. The MR beer we tried was much higher quality. A few interesting guest taps as well. Not a ton of selection and definitely "tourist" priced, but worth a check in when by the river in Savannah. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 smoosh (35) New Albany, Indiana | May 9, 2012 I see that the reviews for this brewery are fairly mediocre, but my wife and I enjoyed it quite a bit! I had seen it on Ghost Adventures I was very curious. It is in a very cool building - as are nearly all businesses in Savannah. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. She had only been there for a month and had no ghost stories to tell. The beers were good, but unspectacular. The food was *very* good. My wife got the pulled pork - which is smoked by a local BBQ place. I had the wings, which were fried crispy, but still most. I had the hottest they have - which were hot, but I would have liked more heat. Overall - I enjoyed it very much and would happily return if it were closer to home. | 38 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD 3/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 9/20 ToyAllen (4) Savannah, Georgia | March 5, 2012 Lot of hype bout nothin. Their in-house brews are ok but nothing to get excited over. Food is ok at best. Friendly service is a goal they should work towards. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 blipp (78) Newark, New Jersey | February 8, 2012 Standard brewpub with decent beers and relatively cheap prices. Sampler of 6 was $7.75. Went for lunch on a Sunday and it wasn’t busy at all. The building seems old and and actually pretty cool inside, with a bunch of classic beer cans lining the top of one of the walls. I’ll definitely pop in again next time I’m in Savannah. | 62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 GJF (41) Mount Vernon, Iowa | February 2, 2012 Eh. It’s a very standard brewpub. The beers are mediocre, but certainly drinkable. Food is kind of lame. It’s the kind of brewpub that continues to disappoint me. | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Immy (109) Virginia Beach, | December 1, 2011 This place has changed quite a bit since I first visited...nearly upscale in comparison, albeit crowded seating. Decent food, skip dessert. Good beer, overall. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 Malty_MacHops (15) Eastanollee, Georgia | November 29, 2011 Popped in to this brewpub during an unusually warm November day in Savannah. I sat at the bar, since I didn’t plan on eating and really only wanted to sample the brews. I tried some samples and ended up ordering a special bourbon barrel aged version of their seasonal Oud Brune. This beer was excellent. My father ordered the Captain’s Porter, which was also very good. As for the other beers, they were average or less. One thing I did not like was the presentation of the sweet potato ale. The beer itself is ok, but they serve it in a glass rimmed with sugar and spices. I did not like this with the beer. The service was good, plus it was not very crowded in the middle of the afternoon, so we had the barmaid pretty much to ourselves. Was a little surprised at her lack of knowledge considering she is the bar tender of a brewpub, but still much better than the typical chain restaurant waiter. Overall a good experience. |
