22 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 1/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 1/20 Braudog (655) Hampton, Virginia | July 17, 2005| Updated June 26, 2009 Re-rate June 2009: F*CK THIS PLACE!! I will never return to Moose’s Tooth, formerly one of my favorite places in town. The staff has become a gang of arrogant dick-heads. The pizzas here are still to die for. But while their beers continue to be solid, they don’t ever do anything different any more. But the all-time killer is the absolute shitty attitude the staff has towards people; just because the place is packed every night doesn’t give a place license to be jerks. I tried to visit here 3 times during my most recent 5 day visit. Once I aborted due to the large crowd. The second time I went at 4 pm to secure a single seat at the bar and was treated with incredible aloofness. Finally, I returned to contemplate the 1.5 hour wait and leaned over the only empty chair at the bar to order a beer -- after being ignored for 5 minutes while no one else was waiting anywhere else at the bar, I was told that I needed to get in line behind the 6 other people that had just formed a line 3 feet down the bar because "that’s how they do it here." I guess I should’ve sat down so I could be comfortable being ignored. Congratulations Moose’s Tooth, you just got the #1 spot on my new Black List. I can get a pizza and beer in a million places in the world. I’ll go 2 blocks away and be treated like a king. Is what you need they have it. Great line up of regular style ales. Terrific pizza and very family friendly. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 nbutler11 (301) Phoenix, Arizona | June 19, 2010| Updated June 26, 2009 This seems to be the place to be in Anchorage. Went during off hours during the middle of the week and it was still packed. Crowded, but cool atmosphere with kind service. Nice selection of their own beers. Worth anyone’s time if you’re in the area. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 PorterPounder (244) Tallahassee, Florida | September 13, 2004| Updated June 26, 2009 Visited here twice while on vacation in Alaska - both times in mid afternoons and they were packed. Have at least 16 on tap with no macros in sight to soothe the masses. Have at least 25 different types of pizza and you can mix and match any way you like. They have a patio out back with events such as tastings of their new beers from time to time. Beers were above average for a brewpub and the pizza was pretty good. Worth a visit if in Anchorage but be prepared to wait for a table unless you want to sit outside on the patio or at the small bar. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 jercraigs (234) Toronto, Ontario | September 9, 2008| Updated June 26, 2009 Arrived to an insane Saturday dinner crowd that only got busier as the night went on. We wisely opted to sit at the bar rather than wait. Servers were friendly and efficient. Pizza was delicious and other peoples pizzas smelled and looked so good it made me want more even though I was fool! Atmosphere is okay, standard family restaurant type fare, sitting near the bar helped brewpub it up a little. We also chatted with some locals which probably wouldn’t have happened at a table. Beer was surprisingly average, of the 16 or 17 on tap only a handful made me want to come back for more. Worth a visit. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 savnac (224) Anchorage, Alaska | August 1, 2008| Updated October 25, 2009 This is one of my favorite places in Anchorage. The place was remodeled and expanded a couple years ago and looks great and clean. The pizza and salads are excellent, some of the pizza combinations sound strange but I assure you every one of them is delicious. You could literally close your eyes and throw a dart at the menu and you would have a tasty meal. The beer selection is superb, although this place is so popular that they can sometimes run out of a particular beer. Very busy on friday nights and on the weekends but worth the wait. You can also get growlers filled and purchase 5 gal kegs at the restaurant. My only problem with the place is that you have to purchase their growler bottles, you can’t get a personal growler bottle filled. Also, you can’t get a personal corny keg filled, they have pre-filled sankey kegs and only some varieties available. If your in Anchorage this place is a must. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 mabel (211) Toronto, Ontario | April 10, 2009| Updated October 25, 2009 Visited on a very busy Saturday night back in September, it was packed and full of country radio music and laughter. A huge selection of 17 house brews on tap; a lot of them are similar to each other, though the IPA and porter stood out. We ate a tasty Brewhouse Favourite pizza. The staff was all wearing MT-logo t-shirts and friendly enough when you could catch their attention, they all were so busy. Overall a good experience. | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 Sledutah (207) Utah | January 30, 2013| Updated October 25, 2009 Nice big pizza place. The parking lot was packed, so we almost passed it up because we didn’t want to wait, But glad was gave it a try, no waiting and sat in the bar. The pizza’s were great, service was fast and friendly. The beer was average at best. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 16/20 SHIG (175) Anchorage, Alaska | April 18, 2012| Updated October 25, 2009 Ate here my first night in Anchorage. Very nice selection of regular brews and five seasonal rotation taps. Service was quick and knowledgeable. The crowd was the problem, but I guess it’s because the food and beer was excellent. Worth the wait! | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 nearbeer (163) Knoxville, Tennessee | May 20, 2011| Updated September 28, 2011 The place has an open-area layout, is loud, and almost always has a waiting line. I usually hate that combination, but somehow it works at this place. Maybe because I was able to walk right in and sit at the bar. Excellent and knowledgeable service for me, but I could see how elsewhere it’s probably hit-or-miss, as at any pub. Had a nice chat with some locals, and seemed to be a mix of mostly locals and a few tourists; later when cruise season gets into full swing it looks like it might be a trap to avoid. Beer selection is very good; with heavy emphasis on regionals and a few house brews. Prices reasonable for AK and pizza is excellent. Some great live music at times. |
