80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 ChemDoc (12) West Virginia | December 29, 2010 Really solid little brewpub. The food has been great each time I’ve had it except once... and they immediately made that issue right.
Beer is always better than decent. The IPA was off one batch, but on again the next time I had it. Happy to support the local brewery. | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 15/20 hopscotch (198) Vero Beach , Florida | October 6, 2011 Rustic, copper and wood interior. Full bar and some TVs to watch sports and such. Copper plated brewing vessels are in the back along with another full bar and some dart boards (kicked my nephew’s ass without throwing a dart in about ten years). There is also a second floor outdoor beer garden in the back overlooking the Monongalia River which runs north to Pittsburgh. Overall, sort of vanilla as far as the atmosphere goes. Cozy, but not too cozy. The beer is very decent, but certainly not great. Aren’t almost all craft beers, though? There are a couple standouts in my sampler. The food is good and service is excellent. Absolutely worth a visit. | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 lithy (156) Capital of Appalachia, Pennsylvania | February 18, 2011 So to start, apologies to anyone that does like to live in WV, but Morgantown just looks like sadness. Sure being a mid February day doesn’t help... Anyway, MBC is easy to find. Their beers are serviceable with a few standouts. The place is enormous and the food exceeded my expectations. Not mind blowing or anything but very good. Drinks and food were cheap and service was good. The place was barren though it was Sunday night but the place could stand to be half of its size so that you don’t feel lost. They had 9 beers on tap at the time of my visit which is impressive. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 shrubber85 (163) Greenville, Indiana | July 30, 2012 Right downtown - nice older building. Very dark inside. Very good service (got there right around shift change). Nice eclectic food selection (especially for WV). Beers were all decent enough. A nice stop - I’d say a must if in the area (as there’s not a lot of other choices). | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 WVHouseofBeer (30) Kissimmee, Florida | November 12, 2009| Updated April 14, 2010 To have just reopened under new management and business plan, this place is off to a good start. A fresh selection of hand-crafted brews gives the Morgantown area the quality brewery it deserves. While the speakeasy atmosphere of the Brass Bar is perfect for a nightcap; the conversation friendly dining area showcases local artwork and an upgraded menu of reasonably priced fares. Events like bluegrass jam sessions and beer tastings are a common place at the MBC, and the future only looks bright for this new University City watering hole. If you go, I recommend the Black and Bleu burger with the citrus-hop heavy Zach Morgan’s IPA. | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 JStax (72) Devola/Marietta, Ohio | November 7, 2010| Updated April 14, 2010 For those wanting to stop into this place, it’s fairly easy to find and has a parking garage right across the street, so there is plenty of parking. Went here on a whim on the way back home from Pittsburgh. House-brewed beers were pretty tasty and the food was good. Their beer battered fries are delicious. Was also surprised to see that they carried a nice selection of Rogue and several other craft breweries beers in bottles. I went on a Sunday afternoon, so there wasn’t very many people there and the bartender was very helpful. She seemed to know her beer. The only downside to this place is that there is smoking allowed inside. If that doesn’t bother you, then this is a great place to visit and have some good beer. | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 13/20 swoopjones (230) Buffalo, New York | July 2, 2012| Updated April 14, 2010 Decent place. Food was good, chili and Cajun chicken cordon blue. Beer was a hit, some misses and mostly in between. Server was on top of everything. Otter creek IPA was nice. Parking in back | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 chriso (306) London, England | March 5, 2011 Visted in March 2010. I enjoyed this place, especially in view of the relatively slim pickings in Morgantown. I guess it’s a pretty middle of the road brewpub but I liked the atmosphere - not too much of a corporate, identikit feel. Beers were OK - sampler tray available. Food was OK. Service was incrediby attentive, possibly because our server was an Anglophile who had lived in the UK for a while and seemed more intent on chatting to us than attending to other clientele. So I guess service may have been a bit flaky if you were one of those other customers. One of those places that are not stellar but fill a niche in the area and are a godsend if you are travelling through. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 bth122 (14) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | May 7, 2012 Located right near the campus down on the main street. Parking garages are right across the street. Sat at the bar and ordered the sampler and some food. Their beer is not bad and worth a shot. The food was good. Its a fairly large place. Recommend stopping in your in the area | 60 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 4/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 Drake (392) Ivy, Virginia | August 18, 2011 Wow this is a claustrophobic town. This place is nice inside... large restaurant with lots of dark wood and an adjacent lower key bar area where sadly smoking is allowed. In fact, I felt out of place in this town NOT smoking. Bartender was nice enough but unattentive. The food was mediocre (beer cheese soup). They offer a regular sampler and a seasonal sampler. The beers ranged from poor to very good. Apparently they have parking but I found it much easier to park in the garage the next block over (75 cents an hour). Everything is dirt cheap. |
