82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 WisconsinBeer (10) St. Paul, Minnesota | February 8, 2009 My favorite bar in St. Paul. Tons of taps, always rotating depending on what time of year you come in. 30-40 taps of non-macro beer at all times, plus a solid bottle selection. (Plus they don’t have recurring tap problems like Happy Gnome does) Full bar, so they also have wine and booze. Food is solid, typical pub fare but slightly upscale - no fried food. Service is never over bearing but always friendly. Atmosphere is excellent, lots of dark wood with plenty of cozy booths to relax. Good tunes and a friendly, non meat market, non frat boy/girl crowd. This is definitely one of the better bars in St. Paul, whenever I go the annoyance factor is very low. If you’re in St. Paul and want to go to a decent bar, this is the place. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 17/20 nsquishee (21) Richfield, Minnesota | March 19, 2010 I have been slacking on getting my review submitted, but that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been thinking about the Muddy Pig since I went there in January. The awesome selection and busy atmosphere is what makes the Muddy Pig so cool. The food is pretty good as well. The only thing that I can really ding the Pig on is the slow wait service or the high beer prices, but the beer prices are easily forgiven because of the abundant number of good beers you can choose from in one sitting. Give it a shot and I’m sure you’ll love it.
One recommendation though....bring a designated driver! NO..seriously! After a few of those 9-11% craft beers, you’ll be surprisingly well lit. | 82 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 3/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 BottleNeck (5) Minneapolis, Minnesota | April 7, 2008 This is an OK place to go if you’re just after beer. I’ve only ever found one bar with a better selection of beers. The service is variable, but usually pretty good. The food is OK, next to nothing a vegetarian can eat (which is about the dumbest thing they could do since they’re across the street from a natural foods co-op). It gets loud enough to make conversation hard on a busy night, but it’s still pretty comfortable. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 3/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 Scotthops (3) Minnesota | August 28, 2009 Great bar. Young-ish crowd. Excellent beer options and nice wrap-around bar. Slightly grungy and a little dark inside, which is cool. A few tvs for those wanting to watch sports. I’d rather just drink their beer. One of the best bars in St. Paul. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 16/20 MarinEvelyn (3) Wisconsin | December 29, 2012 Looks just like a regular bar, but excellent selection and service. Fun bar. | 80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 ryanfolty (154) Minneapolis, Minnesota | July 8, 2011 Great St. Paul bar in a great area of town. Only downfall is the service which can be slow due to many patrons and are rushed when they come over so don’t have much time to talk about the beers. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 BVery (324) Burnsville, Minnesota | January 12, 2009| Updated May 19, 2012 Great St. Paul bar - loads of great beers available. Service can be a little slow, and I think the staff at the Happy Gnome is generally a little more knowledgable, but the Pig is definitely on my short list of great places to go in the Twin Cities. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 14/20 Hason (1) , Minnesota | February 1, 2009| Updated May 19, 2012 The beer selection was top notch. The staff was friendly, although maybe a little slow, but they were very busy. I’ll go back. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 khoffman43 (71) Bloomington, Minnesota | December 13, 2012| Updated May 19, 2012 Lots of tap beers but nothing too special on it, at least when I have visited. Decent place though, I like the dingy atmosphere. The food is quite good actually. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 Stine (74) Minneapolis, Minnesota | January 22, 2007| Updated May 19, 2012 Looks like the dining room of wealthy relatives crossed with a real neighborhood sports bar. It seems like their selection is more eclectic than the Happy Gnome, while the food is not quite as good and also not quite as pricey. If I want to watch the game, this is where I usually end up. |
