68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20
Our first bar on the 2014 Mega holiday. Early afternoon on 11th March, bright and sunny outside, busy, noisy and friendly inside.
Found a small table with stools at the rear and wandered over to the bar for a good look at the taps. Mostly, light, IPA’s or wheat beers and all fairly common, even to me, a visiting Brit.
Made mistake of asking for a large beer and two small, didn’t realise the chalice was their regular large offering.
We had a bit of food, a selection of mini-bites is the best description, all good and plentiful. All around us Pizza seemed the food of choice, with loads being packed into boxes for finishing later.
Service was fine, the girls coped well with the amount of customers and the beer quality was good, even if I was a little disappointed with the offerings.
Obviously a popular bar. With surfers, locals and tourists like me all using the joint. We had walked along the coast for few miles to build up our thirst, not to sure what everybody else had done to become so thirsty, but there was certainly a lot of drinking going on.
Too many TV screens for me, but I’m not really a Sports Bar sort of person. Decor and furnishings all basic, but with a seaside, surfy feel. T’shirts and other logo’d stuff if that is your thing, we didn’t bother.

64 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 12/20
The best beach beer bar that I know of. This is a place you go to unwind, not to get your inner beer snob on. The tap selection I think exceeds 20 with some great crafts but a lot of macros. Forget proper glass, here it is go big or go home. All-in-all a fun place to visit in Newport.

72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20
This is a sports bar on the penninsula in Newport Beach. It looks right out at the ocean. Nice selection of micros on tap, Deschutes, New Belgium, others, but what was shocking was Orval in bottles too. The food was pretty good.
The crowd is the ’beach’ crowd. So you get quite a variety: gnarly surfers, business people, etc so people watching can be fun.
