68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 nate2g (441) Boomtown! / Waikato, New Zealand | June 28, 2012 Paid a quick visit with Jonno. Pleasant space with wooden bar and tables. All the Baird range on taps plus seasonals. A guest tap as well. Nice enough for a quiet drink. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 shoulderbroken (119) Tokyo, Japan | November 14, 2011| Updated February 1, 2013 Nice place with nice atmosphere. Went early on a Friday evening and managed to get a table, but it did get quite busy. The bar service thing is a little strange. No-one seemed to know exactly what to do. We did get a tab though, so we didn’t have to pay every time. Food was basically good, but not as interesting as Harajuku, where it was a little more Japanese Izakaya style. Was more burgers and pizzas here.
I didn’t get the bad atmosphere thing people had mentioned. Sure it is quite open, but it felt nice to me.
| 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 TheGrandMaster (105) Auckland, New Zealand | October 10, 2010 Timing didn’t really work very well as I had to visit bang on the 2pm opening time. But great place to get into some Baird beers. | 54 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 4/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 10/20 prestonshute (12) Georgia | March 26, 2010| Updated January 17, 2012 Rate Beer won’t let me delete my previous rating.... | 66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 JapanTony (52) , Japan | July 16, 2009| Updated January 17, 2012 As others have said, you go here for the beer. Best selection of Baird in Tokyo, which means a lot of fine choices, and with the drink card it works out to 750/pint, much better than the usual 1,000 in the rest of Tokyo.
However, there is room for improvement regarding the service. The food selection is fair, but small plates leave you hungry. Better to get dinner elsewhere. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 17/20 Bier brauen (11) Bremerton, Washington | March 21, 2009| Updated January 17, 2012 A nice place in this land where one has to do some searching to find quality beer. But it’s out there! I watched World Baseball Classic on TV. Ichiro. Try the beer Ice Cream. I thought the Shimagumi stout Ice Cream was out of this world. Dry and light, caramel and butter sweeetness. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 chuwy (26) , Japan | March 11, 2009| Updated January 17, 2012 Go here a lot as it’s on my way into town. Lots of beer choices, all Baird. Beer quality is very good, but serving quality is another matter. It’s gotten better, but you still get a pint or two that has been topped up from a pitcher of beer that has been standing for lord know how long. Even if it’s fresh, you don’t pour an already poured pitcher into a pint glass and expect someone to pay full price for it or even want to drink it. Head sizes vary according to who serves you. They are lgetting better but it’s till not perfect. On the whole staff here are friendly, if a little hesitant or shy. Nice bar but the decor and feeling is more akin to some kind of diner than a pub. Evyone is exposed. No cubby holes or places to hide with your beer. Very group freindly yet not easy to meet new people here, due to the layout of the tables. Reccomend getting the nonbei card (12 pints for the price of 10). Tasters are way too expensive. A definite bar to try, especially if you can’t make it down to Numazu. | 34 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 2/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 4/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 5/20 abemorsten (103) Mosterøy, Norway | March 10, 2009 Beers from Baird brewery on tap is the only reason to come to this place. Beers are quite expensive, even their sampler. The brews I tried were OK, but nothing great.
Food is made with beer as an ingredient, which is usually a plus, but this was also pretty ordinary stuff.
Interior is all light pinewood and brass. It’s not a pub - it’s a taproom. The room is very open so you’re on display whereever you take a seat. Atmosphere is tense and uncomfortable.
I had maybe expected a bit of enthusiasm from the staff, this place being so devoted to a single brewery, but that seems to have gotten lost somewhere along the way.
Staff is blatantly uninterested and provide no guidance upon choosing beers, a passive aggressive attitude from the staff when hesitating during my first order.
Surprisingly unwelcoming, given the hard to find location. If I ever I get back to Tokyo, I’m not going back to this place.
| 66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 buzzoven (4) , Japan | February 11, 2009 I have been here once and still not sure what to make of it. For starters, the place is located in a business mall district (which is probably great for business but deducts massive points for atmosphere). The place is brand new so it really doesn’t have that broken in feeling. There’s no blood on the walls yet. The beer selection is...well, it’s all Baird beer so if you like Baird beer, then you should go here. But I preferred the small town joint feeling of the Numazu Taproom. | 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 jonno (105) , Japan | December 13, 2008| Updated April 21, 2012 Good place to try Baird beer. not my favourite Ji Biiru as I tend to think they spread themselves too thin but good beer none the less. The place is well decked out. Nice place. I agree that the place could have been set out better as its just one open room. Otherwise good for a few. UPDATE. Service can be downright rude here - and often choices are left on the board even when they are finished. Seems odd - the other taprooms are excellent for service and availability. Also my comment about Baird should be taken with a grain of salt, the quality (particularly the seasonals) has improved a lot over the past few years. |
