For a supermarket selection of beer in NZ, Thorndon in Welly must lead the way. A long aisle featuring a huge selection of local and overseas bottled beer. I spotted quite a few seasonals and special release brews from Kiwi micros here. Not a far walk from the train station so worth the wander.

OK to avoid any confusion this is a supermarket - it just happens to have an excellent range of local and imported beer. And when I say excellent range I mean a wide selection of local and imported mega-brew, NZ craft beer plus international craft beers, trappist ales, lambics all at very good i.e. supermarket prices. NB drinking in the carpark is prohibited.
