Visited May, 2012.
It was only natural to visit the bar with the stock exchange theme. The gimmick is that the price of each beer fluctuates according to the demand. So when a beer gets ordered a lot the price goes up. Since I was working while in NYC I had some time during the day before visiting the place to watch the prices. I was a little let down when I saw that it was just a predetermined pattern where the price climbs slowly to a peak and then drops back to the low point and starts the cycle over again. I suppose thatís what nerdís do: take the fun and mystery out of everything. The good news is that once you know the high point youíll know to wait 5 more minutes before ordering. I donít remember the length of the cycle but it couldnít have been more than about 45 minutes.
I visited in the early evening when everyone was getting out of work so the place filled up quickly and became a popular hang out. The service was decent; friendly but not the fastest. The selection was also just decent. I tried some locals that I hadnít tried before rather than going for the stuff I knew would be good. Didnít eat but the menu looked OK. More of a sports bar than a beer bar but it was still fun.

Huge place that does the "stock market beer thing." Draft selection is mediocre for a beer bar, good for a regular sports bar. Didnt try the food. Rarely stop by here despite being within walking distance. Iíd rather go to Pony.

Very big place, beer stock ticker got old pretty fast. It was a slow night so I guess the ticker wasnít as interesting. The service was not very good. Both bartenders preferred to talk to girls while we sat with empty glasses for 15 minutes. the selection is "standard" for a beer bar. They did have some good pumpkin beers on tap which was showing me they do rotate offerings. Felt more like a popped collar sort of joint.

This was right next to my hotel, so I stopped by a few times for a nightcap. Typical chain ambiance and food. Plenty of tvs for watching sports, which came in handy for watching one of my hockey games. The prices flucuate in real time on an electronic board (just like the stock market). Itís a neat gimmick except for when the price of a beer you want goes up. Seems like more of a business clientele.Selection is ok, good enough to satisfy a beer geek but nowhere near Pony Bar, Blind Tiger, etc.

Not that good of a selection. Seems pretty dull. Not likely to stop by here often.

The unique feature here is that a selection of 10 or so of their beers that have their prices fluctuate with the "market" of buyers that are currently at the bar. More people buying? Price goes up. No one has had it in awhile? Price goes down. Pretty cool idea in theory, but not as exciting in practice. Maybe itís better when itís busier. The place itself is relatively spacious, with plenty of bar space and tables, a decent selection of both draft and bottles, and a rotating music selection of current hits and classic rock/80ís. I had I good time, and I guess Iíd stop by again if I am in the area.

The atmosphere is that of a pretty slick sports bar, but the place has some features that make it stand out a bit. For you gamblers and traders, there is a "beer exchange" in which the value of certain brews rises or falls depending on how many people are ordering. Some tables come equipped with ready to go kegs full of macrobrews - I think you just swipe your debit/credit card and then drink up. The selection was good sized but it had only a few really interesting items. The crowd seemed pretty mainstream. The food was pub grub, and priced a tad high - the half pound burger I ordered seemed to come in an ounce or two short, but it had some nice salty grilled onions on it, and the fries were fair. This place, while not outstanding, has something for everyone.

A large cavernous place about half-way between the theatre district and Pony Bar (which is how I stumbled on it). Itís kind of nuts that NYC is such a beer hotbed that a place like this could be stumbled upon without someone in the city noticing. A mostly NY State beer list which is kind of a cool angle to play up. Itís a large space and looks nice enough although itís a bit sterile for my taste. Some weird sort of stock exchange motif that runs on multiple screens throughout the bar - I think it means something about prices - but I honestly couldnít follow it. I donít think itís a place Iíd frequent a ton - but itís a nice addition to the neighborhood nonetheless.
