A cool, down-to-earth dive bar vibe with massive tap selection. Good mix of local brews with many microbrew and import standards. We headed straight upstairs for pool, jukebox and other old-school coin-op games. Only 8 or so taps upstairs, but still decent: New Belgium Ranger, Guiness, etc. You can always go back downstairs for the obsurities. Most people were still drinking $5 pitchers of Bud Light, but hey, this place is a step in the right direction. I agree with phaleslu that the smoke stench was gross, but then, itís just that kind of place. Nothing special about the food or food service. Bartenders seemed distant and annoyed. I have no idea about their knowledge of good beer, but who cares? This isnít a brewery, so I donít expect much "expertise." The owner or buyer or someone attached to the place must have wide taste, which makes all the difference.

So Nickís Pub has stepped up its game beer-wise and become the St. Louis areaís leader in taps- 65 in all. I counted 36 of those as locals my last time in, not counting ABInBev, of course, but also not Boulevard. This gave most of the local breweries a few taps each: 4 Augusta, 6 or so Schlafly, 4 Urban Chestnut, 4 Six Row, and on down the line. There arenít any other places that can match this in sheer numbers. That said, the rest of the taps are just okay: some Boulevard and more common crafts like New Belgium, but not digging too deep into anyoneís bullpen. Plus the typical macros and common Irish/English/Scottish stuff. The place is tucked under the Hampton bridge almost on an industrial stretch of Manchester. The staff is not overly knowledgable, about what youíd find in any bar, but that actually helps. Augustaís Rye Whiskey Barrel Imperial Stout was $4.50 for a pint- same price as a bunch of other crafts- and pitchers during happy hour are like $8.50. Thatís a hell of a lot of 9.6% ABV deliciousness for a dangerous price. Food is average bar food, there are some TVs for sports and games upstairs. The big downside: this place missed the square feet threshold by like 1 SF for the smoking ban, so thereís still smoking here.
