This place is unbelievably good. Located down an alley in the Old Port, it is hard to find but well worth the effort. The draft selection is varied, local, and extremely fresh. The bottle selection is deep, and of extremely high quality. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. This could very well be the best beeer bar we have ever visited, including a few in Belgium. We can’t wait to come back.

nice shady beer garden deck with exposed brick cellar to hide out when the weather turns cold. well curated list with an unparalleled variety of styles and regions represented. in addition, great special events rotating through, example rogue week/dogfish week with drafts of almost all available styles from each brewery during the event. must see if you are in the area. little hard to find (look for their sidewalk sign keying you in to the garden)

Stopped here recently while in Portland. Basement type setting with two separate bar areas. Draft list was very impressive, one of the best I have seen, excellent mix of imports and quality USA offerings. Had logo glassware to match most beers. Didn’t eat at all, but most people seemed to be enjoying their food. Outdoor patio is very large and had a beer garden feel. Beer cellar had a ton of offerings, but they didn’t have a few of these that patrons were ordering at the bar. Not a big deal since the draft list was world class. Overall, I left very impressed..

Follow the monk down an alley in Portland, and you may end up in this delightfully dingy beer hall. Limited but delicious food menu compliments a top notch selection of both local and distant brews, with a strong affection for Belgian beers. The crowd was a mix of students beer geeks, and the staff very friendly. I sat by the local taps at the end of the bar, enjoyed a Vietnamese inspired Bahn Mi sandwich and a selection of beers from the local area including Rising Tide and Maine Brewing. Novare Res Bier Cafe is easily one of my top 10 beer bars in the country!

I didn’t know what to expect when, after a bit of searching, I managed to locate the Novare Res Bier Café in the heart of Portland. But, wow, what a great beer pub! The beer selection is awesome, both on bottle, on draught and on cask (BrewDog Paradox when I visited!). The atmosphere was awesome too, located in the cellar of an old bank building with heavy wooden tables and a vast bar. Service was friendly and great. All in all my favorite pub in Maine.

This place is it for me when in Portland...or anyplace between Boston and Lovell, Maine (Ebenezer’s). I love the low ceilings and the stone. It’s also tough to find for a first-timer...which just adds to the allure. Add an amazing beer list and tap offering along with some great food...and you have a very winning combination. This is a must visit when in the area...and worth a detour if not.

One of the best beer bars I have ever visited. The beer menu is unbelievable. I loved sitting out on the deck and tasting fine and rare beers on a nice Fall evening.
