Visited August 2013. Looking at the scores for this place, it seems my one visit was atypical but unless I go back it will have to do. Nice traditional place with seating at the bar, the stone entranceway, and the biergarten out back. Service was poor and I when I asked for the Schwarzbier I was served a reddish cloudy beer. I asked if this was the Schwarz, I was told yes. Appearance and taste I ascertained it was the Roteweisse. I ate the sausages in beer sauce which came with a single slice of bread in a big basket, and it was pretty good.
Visited several times with my parents, places in the citycenter close to the old castle. Nice, cosy place, with a few outside seatings as well. Easy to get to the brewpub, if you are in Nürnberg. Friendly staff, and normally the beers are in ok condition. Can at times be crowded and busy, then you have to be very patient to be served..
A nice, small brewpub. Nice and knowledgeable service with good English. Four beers on tap and they have seasonals sometimes. Unfortunately not this time of the year. Have a whole slew of beer distillates as well, don’t care for those so didn’t try them. Food is alright, regular fare of the region so if you’re into that kind of thing. The beers are cheap, the food is average.
I visited the Altstadthof on a sunny afternoon in mid September 2012, so I sat out in the biergarten in the back - in view of the brewery. The service was nice and friendly, despite my poor German, and they offered a good selection of locally brewed beers on draft - five in all - and a pretty good food menu. I had a very nice time at the Altstadthof and would love to come back.
