Walking home and I thought, why not. Had some lunch and a Brains Black which was nowhere else I went. Good service, busy and down to earth. About 6 Brains beers.

A good city centre Brains’ inn. I prefer the Butcher’s Arms in Canton, with its more down to earth atmosphere and two decent guest ales, but this is a decent enough pub.

Built in 1844 as the Birdcage Inn. It was renamed to the Arcade and Post Office, and finally the Old Arcade, the name of the arcade that runs alongside it, this classic Cardiff drinker’s pub may have gone a lot more upmarket than it used to be (it’s more of a cafe-bar now) but it still serves probably the best pint of Brains in the city, and is rare in that it serves all 3 standard brews plus any seasonals too.
