Stepping into the Old Mill Brewery & Grill is like entering a portal into a backwoods roadhouse far, far away from Denver. The building itself is kind of neat but the decor, the misspelling of pilsner as "pillsner" then correcting it by drawing over the extra l, the loud and belligerent drunk at the bar in the afternoon vulgarly rambling about baseball, the sole guest tap being Bud Light. . .they all add up to not my kind of place to hang out. I did not eat on my visit. Service was friendly, but our bartender kept pushing fruity shots. Thatís an excellent tactic and sheís doing a good job, but that further illustrates what type of clientele and what type of establishment this is. There were seven Old Mill Beers on: a brown, a red and a wheat then four fruit beers. I tasted two of the fruit beers and they were shockingly artificial. However, the red ale was not awful. Clearly this place is focused on a down-home vibe serving up greasy spoon type food, slinging cheap drinks and talking to the barflies about sports. Thatís all well and good but I wouldnít consider it a beer enthusiastís destination.

They usually have about 10-11 beers on tap. The service and value is pretty good, but the beer and food is average at best, with the exception of the devout stout. Come on Wednesday night for dollar drafts or Monday for buy 1 get 1 burgers if you must come here.

I can see why this is a generally crowded place, itís a great place to hang out. The food is pub oriented and was pretty good including for the kids. The beers (most were sold out on our visit) were fair. Didnít try many of the fruit beers. The beers we had were pretty flat. There is a nice outdoor deck which is a plus.

Skip this place! I was hoping for a nice local brewery - this place is dirty, run down, the food was like a low grade cafeteria and the beer was flat and forgettable!

Odd atmosphere, like a roadhouse greasy spoon thatís trying too hard to be what it is. When I went, there was absolutely nobody around to help me. I just wanted to meet someone in charge to talk beer and stuff, but nobody but waitresses were there, and they all gave me this dumb look when I said i wanted to talk to a brewer. Anyhow, this place was a bit lame beyond that. Cheapest entree was a $8 burger, though it should be noted the beer pricing is awesome--$1 pints after 8 every day?! My chicken plate had lukewarm underspiced chicken, paired with room temperature mashed potatoes. Serving temp aside, the plate was kinda delicious. Our hostess was very nice and knowledgeable about the beer, but the beer was hit and miss. I fell for the fruit beers, say what you will...but besides the stout, thereís nothing much worth coming back for.

When I visited 18 months ago, they had a lot of crappy beers including a whole lineup of six different, shitty fruit beers. Iíll check it out again and see how it is these days. UPDATE: Yep, they still have shitty beers and poor service.

I never visited when this was 5280 Roadhouse, but really enjoyed the visit now that it is the Old Mill. The ambiance is definitely roadhouse though. The food is very good and well priced. Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and attentive. The beers were a bit below average, mostly suffering from under-carbonation.
