With claims of being the oldest pub in Derby this place certainly feels the part. Low ceilings and small rooms make it feel cozy even when the place is not busy.
The selection of cask ales was decent as was the price for a lunch. The food is not gourmet by any stretch of the imagination but gets the job of absorbing the alcohol done well enough. With the Flower Pot and Old Silk Mill a short walk away you should at least stick your head in here to find out if thereís anything of interest.

A very cozy pub with small rooms. The real ale selection is not the special one. Adnams, Black Sheerp and so on... (2010).

I like it in here. Beer selection is restricted to a few national ale brands- Bass, Black Sheep etc but very well kept and a lovely old world pub.

An intimate pub experience with lots of tiny rooms, low-ceilings and almost a museum through its age, but the beer range is not extraordinary. Still, itís so close to the Flower Pot that not popping in for a half would be a crime even if you have only one day in Derby.

A pub that seems to trade on itís olde worlde status. Good atmosphere, and lots of small rooms to hide away in rather limited selection of real ales. A rather better ale selection on a return visit in March 2008.

Visited frequently as my dad lives close to Derby. Nice little town centre pub that has always been really busy when Iíve been there. Have good little beer festivals, food has been absolutely fine and service always friendly. Nice snug pub to go to in the winter.

Derbys oldest Pub. Great interior, small & homely rooms off an old flagstone walkway. Great food available. Perhaps a few to many regulars & not enough guests, but all beers are served in excellent condition. & they have 2 beer festivals a year too

Lovely historical old pub with Elizabethan timbers stilll evident. Nice little back room with a lovely real fire.
Went during a strong ales festivial where they had 30 beers available on stillage but even at normal times the pub does offer a good selection of ales although these tend to be regular more than guests.

The olest pub in Derby, closeish to the Cathedral. Mullti roomed with a roofed over patio area and many rooms to investigate. Reduced beer selection on our visit along with reduced staff. Nice comfortable old pub well worth a visit.

I was there with DeepBlack and haddonsman - only had time for a couple beers. They had a "Heavy Weight" beer festival on at the time, should have a reasonable selection of cask ales at other times too. Fairly quiet when we were there in the early afternoon. Didnít eat. Lovely "olde worlde" pub, nice exterior and interior. And their toilets were clean, which is more than you can say about most English pubs!
