88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 TheBear11D (7) Michigan | February 2, 2013 When I think of a brewpub, this is what I imagine. A place that brews that has some great brews and amazing food at a reasonable price. They have enough specialty beers that there is something fresh on tap regularly, but the year round beers are also delicious. | 64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 mikem409 (161) bloomfield, Michigan | July 14, 2012 stoped by on a business trip. had never had any of there beers and was pleasently surprised. the count stoutula rocked! the rootbeer was excelent also | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 b3shine (178) Cincinnati, Ohio | June 25, 2012 I’ve been drinking OP’s beers since Gonzo used to brew there, and have been enjoying this place ever since. Their brewer (Dan) is a really nice guy and cranks out very good brews. The staff are friendly and the food is good too. I love me some OP! | 62 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 4/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 bwa5879 (4) Portage, Michigan | May 7, 2012 Kind of crowded during the weekends but the wait is never significant for an average size party. Menu has some Kalamazoo staples (brewpub dip is a must for regulars and out of towners alike) and really above average meal offerings at a reasonable price. This place really stands out for Dan Kiplinger’s brews. Having been to many similar brewpubs around Michigan (those that do not distribute outside) I can say OP’s beer offerings are rock solid examples of each respective category, both year-round offerings and seasonal specialties. Haymarket Cream Ale, Midnight stout, Pumpkin ale, whatever you choose you cant go wrong. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 ElGaucho (207) Minnetonka, Minnesota | March 18, 2012 Rumors of questionable beer quality were greatly exaggerated. Which is good because in a town with great beer places like Kzoo, you can’t be an average brewpub. The IPA and BWB dark strong pale are both excellent beers. Don’t let the tepid ratings fool you. | 62 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 finderman222 (10) , | March 5, 2012 Not that bad of beer at this place Unfortunately we had a waitress who actually told us to "hold on a second" when she was just chatting casually with the bartender.....take that away from this experience and I would have given a much higher rating! | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 fgctigers (9) Michigan | February 18, 2012 Nice place to go to before you go out for the night. GREAT CALZONES! | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 TMGrieser (6) three rivers, Michigan | August 2, 2010 one of the first brewpubs i ever went to. nice place. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 fredandboboflo (62) East Setauket, New York | July 7, 2010 Monday afternoon. Small (it was Monday afternoon) but diverse crowd, all ages, some for the beer, some for a lunch break. Feel of a restaurant, but one with character, not chain-like, with the addition of a good deal of beer paraphernalia. Beers were circling around average, no more than 8, maybe 6, though one seemed to just be their stout with added chocolate and one was a radler, can’t recall If I’m counting them in the 6 or 8, or maybe there were 7. No matter. Didn’t get the food, but it’s gotta be better than Bell’s in that regard by a wide margin if you’re looking for some grub with your beer. After a weird sort of experience at Bell’s, I quite enjoyed it here. They may not make the best beer, but they still do their own thing without being weird or putting on a different face, and any place that does that is well worth a stop for me. | 74 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 LilBeerDoctor (208) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | June 22, 2010 I went here after Bells on a Monday afternoon but I wish I had gone here first. A relaxed pub with a "sports bar" feel located in downtown Kalamazoo. It was pretty quiet at 2:00 on a Monday but there were several patrons just relaxing with a beer and enjoying a World Cup game on TV. The beers I got were pretty tasty (Count Chocula, IPA, Midnight Stout, IIPA). A nice atmosphere, friendly service, and good value. I really enjoyed this place much more than I had expected and it is really underrated here on RB. I would view it as equally worth a stop as Bells. |
