Utterly incongruous. Is this the most obscurely located world class beer cafe in the world? It is not even the largest pub in the small downmarket precinct area next to a suburban housing estate a long way down the branch line tram route in the eastern suburbs of Helsinki. But the beer selection is superb, including top Finnish micros and weird availability from all over. Royal service / advice too.

The most weird location, but huge selection of good beer. Of course I recommend Pikkulinnun Viskilambic and Siperia Imperial Stout

Visited in July 2010.
Really bizarre to find a place like Olutravintola Pikkulintu in the middle of a not too exciting residential neighborhood. It is truly a magnificent place, not pretty but what a range of beer and whiskey.
About 15-20 minutes with Metro from central Helsinki. Get off the train at Puotila/Botby gård. Then walk about 4 minutes to the bar.
Very friendly staff and locals. I did drink Cantillon Pikkulinnun Viskilambic, Slottskällans Nelson and Plevnan Siperia Imperial Stout during my visit. It’s amazing that you can find an extremely rare Cantillon, at a place like Pikkulintu.
(Cantillon Pikkulinnun Viskilambic did cost 14 EUR for a bottle 37,5cl)

Very interesting place. The pub itself is somewhere between pub and low-grade Kneipe but what makes is quite unique in Finland is the variety of ever-changing brews. The selection is probably the best in Finland when comes to rarities. Staff knows what they’re doing. Great (best in Finland) selection of whiskeys. Definitely worth detour.

Possibly as far away from central Helsinki as you can be while still being in Helsinki, very close to a metro station though, so that poses no issue at all! And to think that I would’ve missed it because of the distance if SaintMatty hadn’t offered to take me along (and a huge, huge thanks for that!). A relatively small place, almost full of locals drinking good or great beer, but the selection is just stunning, rare and quality Finnish and foreign beers on tap (we had Hornbeer RIS, Moor JJJ IPA and some rare Kuninkaankartanon stuff on tap and the Hornbeer Oak Aged Cranberry Bastard in bottles). And they have Siperia and Severin which are probably among top 5 Finnish beers on tap. Huge selection of bottles, a shitload of Belgian, Danish and American stuff. Ah, just go there.

The place to go if you are fed up with pubs run by large restaurant chains. Abundant variety of beers with focus on Nordic breweries, but Belgium, USA and others are represented too, and accompanied with exhaustive selection of whiskies. Really affordable prices compared to other places in the same category, although some of the bottles may be a bit on the expensive side.
Food menu is confined to salted peanuts and (occasionally) sandwiches with the exception of some special days, when there might be something related to the on-going theme or such. This is, however, compensated by thee other restaurants located in the same address, so wether it is noodles, kebab, pizza or something other you want, the choises are there.
Easily reached by Metro train, being only some 200 metres walk from the nearest station.

After a wedding the day before, my finnish beerfriend Terro suggested that I should join him in Helsinki for a short beer sightseeing. This was the second place we visited and Ihad a hard time leaving. The had a first class selection of finnish micro brew on tap and a marvelous selection of different first rate beer on bottle from US, Belgium,Norway, Denmark and I think a saw some from England as well. The staff is friendly and know what they are talking aboute.
Next time I’m in Helsinki I’ll come again.

THE place to visit if you are in Helsinki area. The best selection of great beers in the whole country and a lot of rarities available every now and then.
UPDATE: As of 2013 and 2014, the bottle selection is nowhere near the glory days, as they are no longer importing any American beers themselves. The tap selection is still pretty good, though, and sometimes you might find some interesting vintages on bottles as well for bargain prices (a 3 Fonteinen Oude Gueuze Vintage 2004 for 10 euros, for example)

The place to visit if you’re in Helsinki. Near the Puotila Metro Station in the eastern part of the city. The surroundings and the place may seem somewhat worn down but the staff and the selection of beers (and Whiskies) are top notch. Lots of rarities with always something new to sample. The place is quite small and get crowded in the evenings (especially on the weekends). Theme weeks all year round.
