Well worth the trip! Owner is nice and active on this website, seems to be always searching for new brews to bring in. If your ever around the Richmond area you’d be silly not to stop by.

Nice place. Lots of Belgians and some domestics that I’ve only seen here.

Great beer store. Huge selection of most all breweries available in Va. People are friendly and beer tastings are awesome. Only issue is the location...its rather secluded.

Tough place to find if you’re not familiar with the area, but completely worth the effort. Fantastic selection and very helpful staff. Can’t ask for any more, except that they open another store closer to me.

amazing selection for a small place. i guarantee that anyone can walk in there and find at least one bottle that they will think, wow, i didn’t think i would find this here. i dropped 90 bucks before i could blink.

Went here on Sunday June 5th, 2005. A former 7-11 store converted into a nice beer and wine shop. Ample selection of beers from Belgium and England. Found some "odd" countries not typically found around the area (at least none that I’ve seen). Plus they get stuff from Shelton Brothers which is unavailable in SE Virginia, as there is no distributor. Picked up wuite a few beers fromt hem and had a nice discussion with Bob (the owner?) about beer in the area. Colorful guy and very friendly! Worth your time. Better than Carytown, in certain respects.

Came up from Virginia Beach and was impressed with the selection of 750 Belgiums. Stocked up and can’t wait to pop a few corks. I’ll be back as soon as my supply runs out.

I felt like a kid in a candy store here. I’m not used to this type of selection back in Tidewater, at least not in a store. The people who worked there are very cool. There was a dog roaming around most of the time. Luckily, I went here first on my beer store tour. I can’t wait to go back again and again.

A very nice selection. The store is a little small but well organized and the staff new where everything I asked for was. They took me around the store and made suggestions. Nice selection of Bells. Founders, Southern tier and various Belgiums. When I was leaving the store the helped carry out my cases and gave me a hard time about accepting a tip. I will go back on my next southern road trip it was about a mile off 95 which is a plus.

I’ve now been to Once Upon a Vine 3 times. I think it’s much easier to find than people suggest - just a few minutes off 95 - though certainly not in an eye-poppingly obvious location. The guy who runs the place is really great, always pleasant to chat too, and the whole staff *really* knows their beer (and wine too, for that matter). I’m always eager to check in to see what’s available there that I can’t get at home, and they always have the goods - Southampton 750s, Oaked Bastard, Panil (!), and Russian River Temptation, baby. Lots of good local stuff like Legend and Dominion. Really the best place to go in the area (though I still like Carytown Beer & Wine and River City Cellars too).
