Good atmosphere and welcming, set up inside what looks like a converted church. Service was fast and friendly, food was decent, and the beer was great. A place I’d love to visit agian, and if in the Outer Banks, well worth the stop. Visited on a weekday afternoon, so it was pretty empty, but it looked like during the nght it packed up pretty quickly. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Onenote81 (74) Winston-Salem, North Carolina | May 3, 2012 Originally reviewed: 9/14/09. Stopped here for dinner with the wife the other night. This is a really unique cool-looking building. The interior is pretty cool, though it resembles a barn. There’s a nice stage for concerts and whatnot. The lighting is on the dark side, but I liked it. There’s a nice long bar to the right of the entrance that was packed when we arrived.
They had 6 of their beers available that night. I got a sampler of 4 of them (5 oz pours) for only $6. Not too bad. I tried their Kolsch, Pale Ale, Brown Ale, and their Chocolate Stout. All of them were above average, but I especially enjoyed the Kolsch and the Stout. Very nice brews.
The food was stellar! My wife got the crab bisque and a salad. I got the "Yardbird" chicken sandwich with a salad. The bisque was creamy and smooth with plenty of chunky crab in it. Very good. The salads were good as well as we both really enjoyed their house dressing. My chicken sandwich was good, but nothing special, though they say that’s what people go there for. Meh, it was ok.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this place and will definitely make this a regular stop when I get back to this area. Recommend. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 19/20 BR007 (7) Strongsville, Ohio | July 20, 2009 Visited twice the week of 07/13/09. Building was ok, average crowd both times I went. Had lunch the first time and tried the NC BBQ sandwich which was great. My wife and daughter both laughed when I said MMMMMMMM! after biting into it. Had the smpler and the lemongrass brew in bottle as it was sold out on tap. Loved the Santa’s Sledgehammer brew wish I could have taken home some for the holidays. Went back and had some freakin awesome Calamari and Chips N Dip. The Licorice Stout got my attention this time. Nice brew with unique taste. By far the best place to go on the banks. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 arventresca (32) Charlotte, North Carolina | April 23, 2008 Didn’t try the food, except some chips and salsa. Beer was good and service was good. Many home brews to chose from brewed right there. A must if you are at this part of the country. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 Brewbie (17) New York | November 18, 2011 There in the off season in October. Arrived early for dinner, the dining room was mostly empty (but the bar was nicely full) and enjoyed a good meal, quick and friendly service. Had a few beers with a nice relaxing dinner. Nice place and a great time of year to visit. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 radio_nowhere (33) Maryland | October 6, 2012| Updated March 3, 2013 Lunch stop on the way to Hatteras. Beers on tap were mainly their own, ~5 styles. Service was good, food was good. Place was not very busy when we were there. Left with a growler of their lemongrass wheat ale. Somewhat annoyed you can only use their growlers but o well. | 78 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 epf33 (14) Fairfax, Virginia | February 24, 2008| Updated March 3, 2013 love the food, great beer selection! | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 TheBeerGod (104) Newport News, Virginia | June 15, 2008| Updated March 3, 2013 First visit here. Went on Friday, June 13th. Had dinner and sampled all of their beers. Service was very efficient. Ordered the bratwurst platter and though done well enough, was kind of small for the price. The beers were all well done and tasty enough. They had six on, and I got through them all over the course of the evening. Went left when the DJ started up. Will definitely go back. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 hogan873 (14) Joliet, Illinois | August 16, 2007| Updated January 4, 2008 Great brewery/restaurant. Very relaxed atmosphere even when very busy. Beer selection is pretty good...usually 5 to 6 on draft (they’re all their own). Service is always very good. The wait staff and bartenders know their beer. I had a chat with one of the owners. Real personable and quite knowledgable when it comes to beer. Food is excellent. Great selection of seafood, burgers, and the like. My parents live within walking distance...I need to visit them more! |
