84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 savnac (224) Anchorage, Alaska | March 22, 2013 Stopped in for lunch and brews. Unassuming place located in a strip mall, inside has a decent sized seating area, bar area and loads of coolers full of beer. Great service from the friendly and knowledgeable staff. Huge selection of draft beer with some Papago offerings and a huge bottle assortment in the coolers. Food was above par for most brewpubs. Value was great on most draft beers, some bottles were over prices compared to local bottle shops. This place is a must stop, we ate, drank some amazing beers and took some to go. | 84 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 jsquire (120) St. Marys, Ohio | March 9, 2013 This is a surprising place to find in a strip mall. There is an incredible bottle selection to drink there or to carry out, and a long tap list that has their beers (all that I had were solid beers) and a great selection of other brewers. I didn’teat there but they say the pizza is really good. The service was a little slow but not worse than you would expect from a busy friday night. A must stop. | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 rickyleepotts (7) Scottsdale, Arizona | February 9, 2013 This place is one of my favorite places in the Valley to get a beer. They have an INCREDIBLE selection, and are always tapping something new. Walked in last week and they had 120 on tap. Every time I go they have new beers available. The food is pretty great, too. Order a pizza. You won’t be sorry! Oh, and they have a cooler stocked full of bottles that are not outrageously priced. The staff is great, knows beer, and is eager to serve you a pint of your favorite craft beer. They have a monk club that is pretty good, too offering a bigger pour and happy hour prices all the time. GREAT place to have a pint. | 70 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 16/20 jrallen34 (271) Chicago, Illinois | February 7, 2013 30 drafts with really good stuff but I prefer OHSO to tick... ambiance isn’t great, in a strip mall, places seems old, run down and dirty, lacks character... service was nice but unattentive... 5 in house brewers, all were good, really great guests, old dipsea, abyss, monks cafe on draft, a couple hundred bottles for sale to go. Only did tasters of Papagot beers, prices a hit high for Phoenix... food was standard bar fare... Good bordering great place but with the drive no need to come from Phoenix to head here when you can get a lot of their beers around town | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 Theydon_Bois (372) The ’Sham, England | January 15, 2013 Visited here in Sep ’09 on a Saturday evening between 8 and 10pm.
I was surprised how quiet it was for a Saturday night with perhaps half a dozen or so others in the bar.
Most of the trade seemed to be coming from folks popping in to buy bottles to take home.
Service was great - but they were far from stretched. Bar man was interested to have a UK visitor and we chatted a bit and he poured me a few Papago samplers as well as the ones I purchased. 30 or so taps and a good few hundred bottles in the fridges opposite the bar.
We eat some bar snacks, nacho, wings type stuff and they were fine.
Decent joint and would recommend to anyone visiting the area. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 RobertDale (89) Lansing, Kansas | January 4, 2013 Difficult to find but worth the effort. Excellent selection of bottles that you can consume on site. Their own beers (contract brewed) are very good. Wish I would have had time to try the food. Everyone was friendly and willing to talk about their beers and their beer selection. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 DukeBrewDevil (41) Chapel Hill, North Carolina | December 7, 2012 This place is glorious. It combines a medium sized dive bar with nice draft list, a few of their own (nano?) brewed beers, and a to-go bottle selection that’s tough to beat. Nearly all the bottles were sold as singles, and priced very well for that format. There were no prices labeled, so I was afraid the bill would be high, but in the end, the prices were good. As for the selection, the fridges are arranged so you see 1 of each type of bottle, maximizing their space. It’s just jammed with great west coast craft beers. Fun place to drink good beer while buying way too much beer to take home. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 17/20 phaleslu (314) Cincinnati, Ohio | November 17, 2012 Came in here on a Friday night. Crowded but not unapproachably so. Tap list was Belgian-heavy; only had two house beers as they prepared for Belgian Fest the next day. Prices for drafts were high but bottles were surprisingly cheap. Lots of stuff in the fridges. Atmosphere was warm and vibrant and loud. Solid service. Great stop in Scottsdale. One of the too few places in the Phoenix area. | 76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 DiarmaidBHK (523) Pennsylvania | September 18, 2012 Located in a slightly seedy shopping mall, this place has bit of a rustic feel to it. Lots of good taps and lots of coolers as well for sixers to go or to break open at the bar. They had some locals, including their own contract brew which was mainly solid, and some national craft as well. It’s solid but there’s some unknown factor that prevents me from being terribly enthusiastic about the place. | 96 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 19/20 dec83 (1) , | August 27, 2012 The beer selection on tap and in the bottle are extensive and with great selections. I went to try their beer. I had a sampler with four beers. Elsie’s (Irish Coffee Milk Stout), Coconut Joe (Coconut Coffee Stout), El Rabusto (American Black Ale) and Orange Blossom (Vanilla Mandarin Wheat Ale). They also have Oude Zuipers in 750ml bottles which is a Belgian triple which is brewed in Belgium. The stouts had very pronounced coffee flavor. I wound up taking away a growler of Elsie’s. Orange Blossom is their most popular and is a good lighter flavored beer. While the bar food is good, does it really matter when the beer is great? |
