100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 zappuh (2) North Carolina | February 15, 2012 This is the go to place in Boone for beer lovers. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. The selection is unbeatable. Always have good year round beers and the hard to find seasonals and limited editions. | 98 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 Bigsilky (10) Charleston , | June 26, 2005| Updated January 2, 2006 Nice store. A little cramped, but for all the right reasons. Amazing selection of imports and microbrews. Some beers thought to have been long gone are here. More english and german imports than I have ever seen elsewhere. German rauchbiers, bottle-conditioned stouts, 12 different rogues, just wonderful. A lot of classics here and pardigms for the styles they represent. Also plenty of warm beer to survive the long drive home. The staff was knowledgable and engaging. Wish I could of singled some stuff out, but I guess that does wreak havoc on stock rotation. The only thing the store needs is a little more space and the 6% cap to be removed. Rerating: After the cap has been lifted. Super selection of what eveyone else doesn’t have. All the standards(Chimay, Rogues, Duvel etc.) Huge quantity of Thomas Hardys’ 2004, (with no limit on how many you can buy!!!!) 90 minute, Pangea, Olde School, Mocha Java Stout, De Dolle Belgians, and an obscene amount of stuff never seen before. Definantly worth the drive. | 94 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 19/20 clutchmeister (1) Boone, North Carolina | May 21, 2010 I live in Boone and feel extremely fortunate to have Peabody’s in town! They do an excellent job of stocking unique beers on a consistent basis. They also have a nice selection of kegs to choose from with some nice deals to boot when they find them. They throw out some super deals and have wine and beer tastings pretty much every week. If you are in the highcountry and want something to wet your whistle, there is no better place than Peabody’s in western NC! By the way, they now sell Growlers and 22’s of Pisgah Organic! | 90 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 19/20 maxwellboltzma (9) North Carolina | June 30, 2012 Best place in town. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 DrBayern (39) Morehead City, North Carolina | October 12, 2005| Updated May 2, 2007 Peabody’s has steadily improved over the years. Everyone that works there is very knowlegeable about beer, and will to talk with you about it. It’s always a pleasant experience to shop there. Until recently, their selection has been limited by state law, not their choice. With the passage of the new law in NC allowing up to 15%, they are aggressively adding new beers weekly. It is one of the best beer stores in NC. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 Onenote81 (74) Winston-Salem, North Carolina | May 2, 2012| Updated May 2, 2007 Visited: 5/9/11. Spent a day in the mountains with my family and made it a point to stop by the famous Peabody’s. As I walked in, I was promptly greeted by the guy behind the register and asked if I needed any help. Good service already. The beer section is in the back right side of the store, past all the wine. First thing I see is a nice rack of vintage brews. They had a good selection of aged beers at fairly reasonable prices. The beer is organized well, with a nice Belgian section, NC section, European section, and a large section of coolers with chilled singles, bombers, growlers, and sixers. Very extensive selection. I’d be hard-pressed to not find something I’d want there. Some of the prices are higher than I’m used to, but some were actually lower. I was approached by the aforementioned employee, and asked again if I needed some help. We chatted beer for a bit. I’m really glad I stopped. Definitely one of the best stores in the state, and by far the best store in the area. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 NYHarvey (124) New York, New York | February 1, 2008| Updated May 2, 2007 Excellent selection. Fantastic service. I popped in a second time to see if they had any new deliveries since my last visit and they immediately recognized me and showed me everything new that came in. The first day they were equally as intentive, making suggestions and helping me get my purchase to the car. A kick ass beer shop, one of the better ones I’ve been to. A must stop. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 dfedukovich (1) | June 13, 2006| Updated May 2, 2007 I absolutely love Peabody’s! I am going to miss it when I move out of Boone. They have a great enviroment. The staff is always helpful and open to any questions you might have. But the best part of Peabody’s is the fact that they are always improving and expanding their selection of beer. I recently found a brew that I have been looking for that I didn’t think I would see out of New England. This place is great. Always helpful. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 TikiE (6) Sylva, North Carolina | February 4, 2008| Updated August 19, 2008 Finally got to get to go in it last time I was visiting my buddy who goes to app. When I first walked in I was greeted and asked what I was looking for. The employees were engaging conversations and giving suggestions to what beers you would like. The selection was outstanding with 100s of different types of beer ranging from cheap beer to some that were 15% and worth 10 dollars a bottle, of course I had to get that one which was Samuel brewed by Avery! This place is great with kind of beer your looking for, Im definitly going everytime I am in Boone! | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 NCsparkster (1) High Point, North Carolina | July 12, 2007| Updated August 19, 2008 I used to go to school at Appalachian State, so that’s how I found out about this place. The store is small and disorganized, but there is a certain charm to it. They have quite a number of brews there, as well as wines and some other stuff. The selection is limited by the shop’s size, but they do their best to stock up on the most popular stuff (classy stuff, not Bud-Miller-Coors stuff), which leaves them plenty of room for some other gems. They also have a small, but incomplete selection of glassware, if you need proper drinking stuff. The guy in charge when I was there seemed very knowledgeable and was quite friendly, too. If you’re in a hurry, you’d have to count on an employee to find what you need, because much of their stock is so haphazardly arranged around the shop that it could take a while to find a particular brew on your own. However, if you’re like me and don’t mind a dandy little beer treasure hunt, the apparent flaws of the place will disappear the moment you find that awesome, rare beer in some shady nook or cranny.
BTW If you go there in search of Rochefort 8 or 10, you may be out of luck, but don’t blame Peabodys: somebody’s been buying up all the stock that gets shipped to that part of the country. The guy told me, when I was last there (late June, 2007), that they haven’t been able to obtain any for weeks. |
