Have been here many times. I try to avoid the busy hour because the experience can be bad. When slow, service is helpful and good. Tap selection can really improve. Bottle much better. Never tried their food
Can be a very crowded hole in the wall, but that’s what it is and it doesn’t pretend to be any different. Used to frequent this place in my NYU grad school days and it was perfect for that time. Draft list is okay, bottle selection more extensive. Service was always helpful.
A rather ugly basement pub or medium capacity. Almost no windows, low ceilings, poor ventilation, ugly dirty beer memorabilia. This is not a “cool” pub. I visited this pub twice. Once on a week-end night, way too crowded, too loud, not fun. Once early pm when the place was empty and it was rather depressing with the lacking of natural light and general ugliness of the place. And frankly, it smelled like piss in there. Now, the beer selection. The draft list is nothing to get excited. I don’t know how many, maybe 10 or 12, who cares, most of them are the likes of Stella, Guiness, etc, a Sierra Nevada and one or two NY micro if you’re lucky (but not the tasty ones). Bottle list seems extensive at first but then you realize that most of it is either the most ordinary micro offerings and a bunch of cheap pale lagers from around the word. Also with all the Miller drinkers in there I wouldn’t trust the freshness of their cellar. The only positive about this bar is that it is a bit cheaper than the other beer bars in the neighbourhood. I really don’t understand what makes this crappy bar an “Exceptional” according to ratebeer. I’m not going back there ever again.
Went for a bite to eat and a few beers with friends. Had a great time, bottle selection was fairly extensive, but there wasn’t anything really special or rare on it. The draft selection was solid included a good selection from regional breweries. The food wasn’t anything special, burger was passable. The bar itself was pretty big, lots of booths and plenty of space at the bar. The bottle cap mosaics on the wall were pretty cool. The service was very good and attentive. Not sure how I feel about the cash only pay as you go but it was different. Overall if I’m back in the area I would pop back in for a couple of beers.
Visited after dinner on a Tuesday for a beer. The interior of this place really reminded me of my college bars. Pretty ratty, jukebox, random tat on the walls. However, the service and beer list were nothing like my old college bars - our server was really great, friendly, and knew all about their beers. The beer list was not on par with the beer geek bars in the area, but it was very solid. Good vibe, certainly a spot to hit after the other places fill up.
The first bar I frequented for craft and hard to get imports before I even was aware. Always started with the fresh Anchor Steam on tap and then choose randoms from the ridiculous beer menu. I remember ordering a special ten years ago that was a chocolate stout, wish I could recall the name. Dive bar with greatb selection and chill vibe, best to go early as it gets packed in the evening.
