70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Scopey (271) Croydon, England | May 8, 2013 A fairly large and spacious pub that has a feel something like a community centre/after-school club inside. Knackered furniture, table football tables and friemldy atmosphere. They have an impressive 16 taps with a wide array of Milton beers (which are not too common in London) and a few guests in good condition. We were more than happy with a Nero & Marcus Aurelius! Small London breweries such as Crate are represented in bottle format. A solid place all-round and a great stop between The Cock Tavern & Clapton Hart! | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 Brugmansia (263) Jylland, Denmark | May 6, 2013 Visited several times, and really loves the cosy atmosphere this place have. Nice selection of beers ( lots of Milton beers, naturally ), served in good condition and with a smile from the friendly and service-minded staff. A few bottles are available as well. They do some great food and dessert, so for sure worth another visit.. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 b727trijet (202) Isleworth, England | April 14, 2013 Good spacious pub with guest beers and usually good quality Milton beers. Not quite as avant garde as Cock Tavern in more ways than one... The beers tend to be more yesteryear but that will suit some tastes. If you have time worth a visit. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Fin (377) Merton, Oxfordshire, England, England | March 31, 2013 We visited here for the first time on Good Friday 29th March 2013. As you can see from the image the pub occupies a prime position and sits on a junction. It is a large pub with the bar ahead of you as you enter. There were probably 15-16 beers on handpump with many from the Milton core range alongside some small micros. We had the Beavertown 8 Ball IPA in bottle another v.good offering from this brewery. The food (pizzas) looked good and they were doing a brisk trade. The layout was mainly scrubbed wooden tables and a wooden floor, clean, tidy and simple, I liked it. A very good pub just 5 mins walk around the corner from The Cock Tavern. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 viktorvee (17) , England | March 20, 2013 My local pub. It’s brilliant.
The main thing which splits opinion is the vibe of the place. It’s a big open room which people have compared to a community centre of church hall atmosphere! It’s not cosy in the sense of having little corners to hide away in, but it is cosy in that it’s always welcoming and has a good mix of people in it. The pub quiz on Mondays is great!
Beers wise they have a good selection, as well as all the Milton handpumps they have 3 or 4 Belgium bottled beers and a couple of real ciders. Pegasus beer is the one to go for, wonderful light golder ale. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 JorgeLee (71) , England | January 25, 2013 Large sprawling pub in Hackney, on my visit filled with a very small demographic of the local aren’t I trendy types. Lots of beers on tap, mostly from Milton, and slightly quantity over quality. Food was tasty and very reasonably priced. A good place to visit on a Hackey beer crawl. | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 Theydon_Bois (394) The ’Sham, England | January 16, 2013 Last visited the Pembury in August 2010 on a Saturday afternoon.
The place was fairly busy.
A large single room Edwardian/Victorian era local where two roads split.
Long bar opposite the entrance.
Despite advertising 16 beers on the website only 7 or 8 of the cask lines were on, all but about 1 were from the Milton brwery.
We stopped for a few pints and had some food which was adequate pub grub, burgers and the like.
Bus outside takes you to the William IV for some Brodies action - may as well tie both of these together on the same trip. That said there’s more to aim at in this area since my last venture here ! | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 thepeter (22) London, England | August 29, 2012 Lot’s of space and seating, not a busy evening when I dropped by but I could imagine it being a very cool place to hang out. . .not that it wasn’t hanging out by myself drinking soem fantastic pints and reading a great book. tried 3 beers (OK one was a cider!) but they were all in EXCELLENT form and made me very happy. Service was great but like I said, they weren’t busy so that is what I would expect, however the ladies were all nice and pleasing to the eye and let me borrow a pen so I could write this review. 16 casks!! Plus 4 Drafts (not shit either) plus a bunch of bottles. I did not get abottle count but they had Orval and that is all I need to know to give it a high score. they had a full menu and what appeared to be decent to even cheap prices (It is Hackney!) While I did not try any grub, it looked really good and I will/may next time. THERE WILL BE A NEXT TIME!!!! I really liked this pub and it has been a mistake not stopping in for a proper session sooner. | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 jackl (216) London, England | July 20, 2012 The Pembury’s a large pub located not far from Hackney Central station. While the ambiance is cheery, the place feels a bit knackered. The seating’s a bit rundown, the walls yellowing. The beer selection is large. There’s 16 casks with 2 beers on keg. There’s something like 20 bottles on offer too. I visited during their summer beer fest, and found an additional 10 beers available on gravity. Despite the breadth of choices, I can’t say that I found too many interesting beers to drink. On my visit, there were somthing like 9 different beers from Milton Brewery on offer, with Loddon, Isle of Purbeck, and Brentwood also strongly represented. The food is actually quite good, and available at reasonable prices. Overall, this is a nice place. Not a favorite. | 76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 shoulderbroken (122) Tokyo, Japan | September 24, 2011| Updated September 25, 2011 Nice place with good selection with a slightly random pricing policy. If you pick your drink right, you can have a very cheap night, but some things seem strangely overpriced. But the cheap ones make up for it. Nice atmosphere with a real variety of clientele. Good selection of Milton ales if you like them. |
