On the opposite side to the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, this Nicholsonís pub is typically period in style and very warm and inviting for it, with a saloon bar styling to it. Split level on the ground floor, there bar occupies the middle ground in the main room, and quite a lot of the space, with seating all around it. To the rear there are three atmospheric rooms, two smaller ones of equal size named after composers, split by a corridor leading to the larger impressive hall space. All have a fine period style to them. Ales from the current Nicholsonís list are numerous at the bar.

Worth a visit just for the building alone despite beers being few for a pub this size. Busy in the evening so had to wait ages to get served. Still an amazing pub.

An elegant pub not to be missed. Itís well on the tourist trail but even with the foot traffic itís easy to soak up the history and grand features. As for the beer, itís by no means exciting but worth grabbing a pint and relaxing in this beautiful pub. Has anyone mentioned the Gents bathroom?

There is no way around it. This pub is gorgeous and appeals to the musician in me with the Brahms and Liszt rooms, not to mention the a Grande Lounge. And, of course, the toilets are amazing. A good mix of cask and bottled beers, a litho ugh I have been to other Nicholsonís pubs with much more imagination given to their drinks selection. At the end of the day this pub trades on its looks, beer-wise there are better pubs within walking distance.

Gorgeous pub with very impressive ornaments .. I heard this place was designed from the same shipwrights of the Lusitania .. Being a Nicholson pub the selection itís not so impressive without a real gem but still good anyway .. Absolutely a must visit pub !

A fairly grand - or grandiose - Nicholsonís pub with a nice range of beers. The pub itself is quite ornate, bordering on ostentatious, but it does provide a lot of eye candy. The íGrande Loungeí was an especially decadent affair. I had a fantastic golden ale in this pub so somebody seems to be keeping the casks well. Decent value, able servers. Worth checking out.

typical Nicholson menu and cask selection but fantastic interior, well worth a visit just for that. better appreciation when its empty, but plenty of seating when it gets busy. upstairs dining area. indifferent service though, walked in just after opening and no-one offered to serve...just chatting amongst themselves. went upstairs for food and no-one seated us so ate elsewhere.

Was one of my favorite Pubís when I lived in Liverpool. Interior is just amazing, you feel like being in an old Victorian palace. Restrooms are very magnificent. In the first floor they have a nice dining area, great Bangers and Mash. Several ales on tap. A must place to visit while you are in Liverpool.

In every sense a great Nicholsonís pub located in the Northern Georgian and Cultural Quarter of Liverpool. Itís a famous pub, and even the city explorer bus tour has a stop here. Different rooms, stylish and well kept. The large four-sided bar serves three guest ales by handpumps, and a few regular ales from Thwaites and Liverpool Organic. Some interesting beers on tap, as well. Our lunch food was tasty and freshly made. And yes, as when visiting the Princess Louise pub in Holborn, I took photos of the magnificent marble-tiled gentsí room. Should not be missed (visited, 09.04.2013).
