30 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 4/20 davidm (52) Melbourne, Australia | January 4, 2010| Updated January 7, 2010 This was a disappointment. The only beer that was their own was the "swine lager", which didn’t seem interesting (from the description), and all the others came from macros. Nice food, but not a place for great beer. I had a Speight’s Distinction Ale, which wasn’t bad. Food took long to arrive. | 28 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 3/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 5/20 nate2g (447) Boomtown! / Waikato, New Zealand | March 24, 2009| Updated January 7, 2010 A large busy pub with only mega swill available on tap, which is expected around these parts. Staff look extremely bored which I would be too if I had to work there. Have a Mac’s Black then leave. | 28 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 2/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 4/20 TheGrandMaster (105) Auckland, New Zealand | October 29, 2008| Updated January 7, 2010 A bit of a standard big pub layout, and worst of all, the stardard mainstream NZ beer fare. I assume people go there for the TVs.... | 28 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 1/15 FOOD 3/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 3/20 highlandlad (42) Blue Mountains, Australia | September 9, 2007| Updated January 7, 2010 Barely worth having this place on the database now IMO. On the day of our visit, aside from the usual NZ macros they had just one crappy house lager (Swine) on tap. The building is the best thing about the place. It’s a former police station (hence the name) and has a bit of 1940s character, with some nice old prints on the walls inside. The staff were friendly - they always are in NZ - but the pub grub was drearily predictable and very greasy. Probably the worst meal we had in NZ. The Swine Lager was pretty dire, so we didn’t hang around. Deserted the day we visited. | 50 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 12/20 Gethinbeer (107) Musky, Nova Scotia | May 1, 2006| Updated January 7, 2010 Typical UK style pub. Live musician strumming a guitar in the back room made a great atmoshere. Average selection of beers. Worth a visit when in Rotorua. | 48 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 10/20 JoeMcPhee (466) Toronto, ON, Ontario | July 25, 2005| Updated January 7, 2010 Pretty standard pubbish atmosphere. Was pretty busy the night I was there, very load with a mix of lively conversation and way too loud TVs. There are two house beers that used to be brewed on-site but brewing has since contracted out to Mates Brewing. The two beers are pretty typical with the porter being the better one by far. They also have taps of NZ macros. Food is good, typical pub grub. Fireplaces add a nice touch, but the TVs have to go. |
