This is a pretty cool English style pub in the South Side. What they are known for is opening early (think 8 am) on Saturday/Sunday for European soccer games. We came here for Sunday brunch and the place was packed with people in their soccer jerseys cheering fairly loudly during the game. Brunch was tasty (the boxtys are good!). They have English beers on tap, a fair amount of Pennsylvania taps, and some other American taps as well. Not the most unique beers, but it gets the job done. Definitely one of the better beer bars in the South Side, and even more so if youíre a soccer fan.

Typical pub look and feel. The food is quite filling and good as a compliment to beer. Get the boxty for brunch. It wonít disappoint.

When I visited: Late summer 2012.
What I had: Over the course of two visits - TrŲegs Sunshine Pils, Yards Extra Special Ale, TrŲegs The Mad Elf Holiday Ale, Fat Heads Gudenhoppy Pils, Elysian The Immortal IPA (all on tap), Grilled Apricot Salmon, Scottish Shortbread Ice Cream Sandwich, entree and white wine for the lady.
What I liked: Really cool English-style pub with an awesome low key ambiance, quick and inviting servers, killer beer selection, outstanding food (way more than just pub grub), glad to hear The Shins on rotation.
What I disliked: On the second visit we were seated in the dining area and felt a bit cramped, but thatís a minor quibble.
Would I go back? For sure. This authentic UK pub does the "sports and ales" thing very well. A true gem in Pittsburgh.

My favorite place in the city. The food is considerably more interesting than either Smokiní Joes or Fatheads, the environment is way more chill and the bar itself a lot more interesting, though the back is just a glorified restaurant. The beer selection is way smaller than either of the others, but itís more interesting and fresh, and thereís typically a gem or two that craft beer n00bs would miss in favor of the 50+ taps over-the-head hitting at the other two places (like Victoryís Summer Love). Also the best scotch selection in the city. And Hart works here, so stop in and say hi knowing youíll get amazing service and recommendations when heís around.

Locals at Fatheadís across the street sent me here to try an East End Big Hop IPA.
Nice tidy British style pub. My bartender was a jerk. The food menu looked great, was ready to order but the bartender seemed preoccupied and annoyed at my presence. Decided to head back downtown for dinner at Sharp Creek Bistro instead.
Beer selection limited, but some good locals on tap. Enjoyed my East End Big Hop IPA, but it didnít measure up to Fat Headís Head Hunter I had across the street. Next time Iím in Pitt, will give them another try.

Darker bar feel, but not dirty. Selection is okay. Didnít stay very long, but only because of time restraints. I liked the atmosphere and service.

Ambiance is typical pub atmosphere, nothing standing out but nothing offsetting. Bar service was very helpful and fast. Selection, was typical pub, ie. Irish and English beers, and the occasional East End tap. Always nice to have cask beer though. Beers were priced reasonalby but nothing to go out of the way for. Overall a nice pub atmosphere, showing european sports such as soccer and rugby.

Pipers is absolutely one of my favorite places- period! Drew really loves his work, and it shows. Brittish ex-pats on Saturday for football, but a very well-rounded clientell most times. Great Sunday brunch (a rarity in Pittsburgh). Drewís cask-conditioned selection is limited because he wonít bring in just anything, preferring to work with near-by brewers- but heís expanding his territory a little.
And- itís the only place to watch Six Nations Rugby (albeit, a day late) unless you have a satelite. GO! NOW!
