Pivni is very conveniently located in central York. Itís a pub of two halfs... outside itís very traditional looking, whereas inside itís very modern and contemporary. Owned by the "Tap" family of pubs, however I did find the beer to be most different in terms of selection here. On our second visit they had a Thornbridge Tap-Takeover with plenty of cool stuff on draft (including aged casks). Bottle selection which included a couple of gems is displayed in a cabinet to the right of the bar. They also have a second floor which has regular live music. All-round a rather great pub.

As an American, Iím a sucker for historic and atmospheric venues that enhance the experience of enjoying beers in public. Picnic fits the bill perfectly. Ramshackle and tilting, the building itself is worth a visit. They had a nice, tight selection of beer when I visited.

Pivni is easy to find as itís centrally located in town. Much smaller than I anticipated but there is upstairs seating with the bathrooms all the way up the top floor. Nice selection and as being another Tap sibling youíll find similar taps as the other bars. Friendly barmen and quite busy during an afternoon visit. Nice bar.

Review Sep í14,82 Very popular bar in the centre of York, just off the Shambles. More choice than last year, well chosen and served. Excellent.
Review Sep í13, 78. A tight, atmospheric bar right in the city centre by the outdoor market. Almost a corridor bar in character. The beer range is good and changing and the staff are knowledgeable. It has improved a great deal since our last visit. High up on our places to visit in York.

Quite a tight bar (downstairs at least) but worth dropping in as the range of beers is good in terms of quality rather than quantity. Quite an atmospheric place too.

beer is actually served at a reasonable temp which is ice cold compared to anywhere else in York, but in reality is probably around 8-10 degrees. Beer actually has carbonation. Atmosphere was kinda blah. No credit card or tab. Almost the complete opposite of Stumbling Madness. Good line up of beer, fyne jarl was great and had Marble emancipation. Unfortunately lacks open windows and on an August night it was fairly hot and stuffy
