Visited a couple of times to try and sample a Dancing Man beer and been successful both times.
A bit of a hike from Central station along a busy main road for the most part this is a nice old traditional pub. Service was OK, beer in good condition and prices were OK.
Not seen the beer anywhere else so worth a trek for the tick but itís not a world beater and better pub in the Southampton area than this one.

This is my sort of pub. In my exploration of pubs in Southampton, this one so far best suits me. The place is full of charm and quirks. Thereís a range of seating, including a comfy sofa beside the open fire. Lots of quirky knick-knacks. African masks, etc. Children are welcome. Decent range of good value meals, including plentiful veggie options (all day veggie breakfast for £5.50) It has itís own microbrewery, the Dancing Man, and it offers local beers as well as something or other from the ex major Hampshire brewery Gales (brand now owned by Fullers). The pint of pretzels is also a great idea. Live music, free newspapers, and a good ambiance. Plenty of character, good beers, good food, free newspapers, live music, an open fire, itís own beers brewed on the premises, children welcome. Yep, this is my sort of place.

The only good thing about this pub is itís history (see plaque outside) and itís own brewed beers are okay. Am pretty sure I got short changed but hung around the bar to query but was conveniently ignored and I could not be bothered to make a fuss. Then after finding a table to sit at was moved on so some musician could set up! Apparently they are going to also take over a larger premise on same road and move the brew kit there and run it more like a US brewpub... I hope itís better!

Very intimate in main bar room, quite antiquated but there is a homely warmth to it. The service, however, was dire. When I enquired about the measly selection of Dancing Man beers, I got an abrupt response which offered only a style description. Expressionless, emotionless, insolent and slightly intimidating service. Draft selection was ruibbish and nothing of interest bottled.
I love craft brewing, but the brewing was taking place in the kitchen which opens out onto the dining-room. I noticed many a diner complain about the VERY potent malt emanating from the kitchen. Wonít be visiting again.

A pleasant surprise. The Dancing Man brewery is tiny! The attached pub has unique music bar character, plays world music and blues. Cool spot, filled with locals even mid-day. Very convenient for ferries and cruises too!

A cosy and rather unique pub near the harbour for the ferries to the Isle of Wight. Lots of African ornaments are all around and the pub also has some parts of the old city walls as part of it. Also on site is the Dancing Man brewery and two or three of the Dancing Man beers are usually on offer, as well as some guests from other breweries.
