Situated a couple of minutes from the Southwark Brew Co. and a handy stop off if a rater is not thirsty enough after a morning sampling Bermondsey’s finest this place is handy.
It’s not the best of Spoons, the beer list is poorly kept, not usually much on, the ambiance of the place isn’t great and to be honest it’s one of the worst examples of a Spoons I’ve been in. Don’t bother. Head round the corner to the Draft House or the Dean Swift instead

Apparently the word “pommeler” means “one who pummels” and it’s associated with the leather trade (beating the leather I suppose) but it can also refer to a fencer who holds his or her sword in such a way as to make it appear longer. I offer this information (gleaned from a bit of googling) because I’m struggling to find much to say about the Pommelers Rest. It’s a typical Wetherspoon’s - light at the front, dark at the back, carpeted and with a few guest beers alongside the ‘spoon regulars.

Small OK-ish Spoons. Can’t argue with the prices for the centre of London. Beer qulaity was OK.

Visited around 2pm on Saturday 3rd January 2015.
Medium sized spoons just off Tower Bridge and moderately busy with a few ’drinkers’ interspersed with tourists.
The beer range was a little lacking by JDW standards, just 2 beers (available!) above and beyond the standard house cask stuff.
The WJ King Festive had turned to vinegar - no excuse for serving this, cask mark acredited - means bollocks!
Barkeep did replace it and turn the clip round so at least it was dealt with properly.
Overall ... no need to stop here, poor range and badly kept - you’ve been warned!

Wetherspoon pub with a couple of front facing rooms connected by a skylight lit serving area to its rear. There’s no tables in the bar room which suggests it can get busy at periods but as this is pretty much tourist central given its located at the start of the southern approach to Tower Bridge. There’s not a huge amount of tables in here either so a place is not guaranteed here if you’re looking to sit down and eat. There are also warning signs screwed into the table to keep an eye on your bag. The decor is very traditional for the chain and in style with a warming carpet alongside wooden furniture and fittings and it appeals. There are two rows of real ale pumps at the bar.

If you are in the area, drop in. But, it is not worth the detour. You will probably find some new cask ales, but not the most hard to find beers. Nice pub and good service. (Visited November 16th 2012)

A decent good-sized Wetherspoon, the usual good value food and stuff plus two or three seating areas with different characters. Well staffed on my visit, too. There’s twelve handpumps, offering real ciders & perries as well as ales. I visited during the beer festival so the selection may not be typical - six guests, three ciders, one perry, and only two regular ales on. Ale quality was good but not excellent.

Close to Tower Bridge. A very large pub but the beer selection is not that impressive. 3-4 casks on when I visited, and the rest f the beers are mostly mainstreambeers.

A typical JDW establishment. Has a large dining area with relatively high ceilings and large windows looking onto streets, making this a pleasant place to stop in for a beer. I visited on a particularly snowy December afternoon, and the Pommelers Ret provided a nice respite. As for selection, standard JDW: eight cask ale taps and a handful of macros. I had two of the Christmas theme beers. Neither beer was that great, and one was a touch offensive. Very metallic. Not sure it is just a bad beer or if it was a handling issue. I didn’t pay very much for the beer so I can’t be too upset. Overall a decent place if you’re in this area.
