Well itís the future, isnít it. Seriously ballsy beer list at ballsier prices justified solely because they can - wait till craft beers become mainstream in UK bars, hotels and restaurants. The most intelligent beer selection I have come across in the UK to date.

We visited the Port Street Beer House twice over the weekend, once during the afternoon on Friday 17th April 2015 and again with Georgia and Dom on the Saturday. This pub is in the Northern Quarter, you turn a corner (another pub on the corner but forgot the name) and the pub is on the left, if you wander off into one of the nearby car parks youíll have gone too far. The pub does not really look much from the outside, I canít see that it even looks that appealing but on both occasions we went it was a really lively and bustling place. You enter via a short corridor and turn right into a good sized room with seating by the windows with a couple more stools and high tables scattered about, a couple of pillars in the centre obscured the possibility of viewing the whole room from where we sat (tucked away in a little alcove near the door). On entering this room the bar is straight ahead, it was never less than pretty busy at the bar on both of our visits but the staff behind the bar worked really hard and were great with folk regarding helping them with advice on what to choose. Talking of choice, it was superb, there was a fantastic keg and cask range with Danish and US beers complimenting the cream of the UK beer scene at the moment Magic Rock Unhuman Cannonball, Buxton Two Tons DIPA etc on offer. This place reminded me a little of The Grove in Huddersfield, we both really liked it, the ambience was excellent and the balance between locals, beer seekers and tourists was spot on. Prices were fair but I guess for some they might be a bit too close to London prices which is to be expected for such quality. We joined a chap at his table and had a really nice discussion about the current beer scene. I am not the least bit surprised this is number uno in town, it is fully deserving of this elevated status, it is a superb pub.

A great multi-story bar with a great selections of cask and keg beers, including Duchesse de Bourgogne which was amazing. Also had a Mikkeller on keg. Extensive craft bottle list with heaps I wanted to try. Bottles are a bit on the pricey side but the range is excellent. Highly recommended.

Nice place set a side the main road(s). Actually easy to walk by... Anyhow got a tiny little beer garden and upstairs more space. A rather eclectic range of selected beers from all over the world. Price wise it is acceptable but only since it is allowed to also split a pint in half and the price splits into exactly half as well, which is not necessarily usual. Not sure if they serve food, I was too occupied studying the beer menu. Beer is kept well and bar staff is friendly. Loads of beer enthusiasts and a like in here. Excellent place!

While spending a week in Manchester, I visited Port St. twice, and was rewarded with an entirely different selection of wonderful beers on my second visit. I was very impressed by the state of craft beer in the UK as a result. Cheers!
