80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 sic1314 (229) Leiden, Netherlands | March 9, 2013 Nice modern place, great selection and good staff. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 visionthing (200) Oslo, Norway | February 21, 2013 Great selection of beer and a friendly atmosphere. Pretty crowded on a Friday evening, but we managed to get some seats upstairs. I liked the ambiance better downstairs than upstairs. Anyway the beer is in focus and it is an excellent place for decent beer. Both tap and bottle selection was very good. Fairly central location too. Well worth a visit and I will certainly come back if I go back to Manchester some day. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 Brugmansia (257) Jylland, Denmark | February 18, 2013 Visited this pub more than once, and it´s a great pub. Newer modern pub, in 2 floors, great beercelection, both on tap and the huge bottle selection. Both UK and from around the world. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and the beers in good condition.
Absolutely wort a re-visit :-) | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 17/20 wimpyjoe (568) Manchester, England | January 15, 2013 Has a great selection of beers and ales that cover the entire downstairs bar and none of the regular taps that you see if the majority of pubs up and down the country. The only downside to this is the slightly inflated prices to cover the extra costs of transporting these beers, although the ales are more expensive than other local outlets too. The setting is a small building set on three levels in a short terrace row in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. The decor makes good spartan use of the building giving it a modern look in an old building. The decor is mainly beer related paraphernalia and seating is on two floors with a beer garden for warmer days. | 76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 SudsMcDuff (174) .....Manchester United.........., Texas | January 13, 2013 great selection, all interesting .. prices were a bit high but you got variety .. friendly staff .. nice back patio .. 2 floors .. busy place .. eccentric bottle selection (but pricey) .. easy to get to .. very nice place! .. only drawback is that the bathroom is on the 3rd floor, it takes the wind right out of you.. | 84 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 jackl (208) London, England | December 10, 2012 I had been warned to visit this place during off-peak hours. Luckily, I listened. Even with an upstairs seating area, this pub’s pretty tiny. The ambiance is a little pokey, with plenty of beer-related bric-a-brac. The selection’s indeed quite strong. The keg options offered imports from the likes of Toccalmatto and Schlenkerla. Cask options included stuff from Dark Star and Moor. The bottle list was small, but strong. All 4 Armand seasons were available alongside stuff from Alesmith, Kernel etc. Frankly, the selection looks a lot like Cask Pub & Kitchen’s, and I’d bet they use the same distributor. Unfortunately, the condition of the one cask beer I tried was poor (a total diacetyl bomb). The service was friendly, but they should have noticed the condition of the beer before serving it to me. The value’s quite decent. Overall, while this place is very good, I feel there’s a few ways the pub could be improved a bit. You get no indication that you’re drinking in a Manchester pub when you walk into Port Street. For instance, there’s no local beers available. In its present form, Port Street feels like a craft bar in Manchester, not a craft bar of Manchester. Still, this is a really nice place. If I lived in Manchester, I’m sure I’d visit often. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 hopbomber (16) Manchester, England | December 4, 2012| Updated May 6, 2013 Best beer bar outside of London, enormous ever changing selection loads of UK, USA, Belgian, Danish focus is on ’craft’ modern beers. The prices are eye watering only worth a trip if they have something really special on tap or bottle that you can’t buy in a shop. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 18/20 AshtonMcCobb (94) Edinburgh, Scotland | November 11, 2012 A great bar for the beer enthusiast, there is a huge selection of cool bottled beers and more interestingly and unusually, a lot of international beers on tap too.The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing.Didn’t try any of the food but the service was fine and overall the experience was a good one. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 20/20 kaufmanised (10) Tamworth, England | October 15, 2012 good selection of beers, and staff have a great knowledge | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 Scopey (271) Croydon, England | October 7, 2012 Port Street Beer House truly is one of the best craft beer bars in the UK. It’s spread over a couple of floors and unsurprisingly tends to be rather busy. The place is a mecca to those of a craft beer persuasion. They have a wide selection of both keg and cask beer covering UK microbrews (Summer Wine, Marble, Thornbridge etc) and other great world-wide breweries (Mikkeller, Evil Twin, Stone....). The bottle selection is also extensive and the range reminds me a lot of Cask Pub & Kitchen in London (I imagine they have similar suppliers). Particular highlights include an extensive Drie Fonteinen range and large BrewDog back-catalogue. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable in those things beer-related. A must visit! |
