We visited the Port Street Beer House twice over the weekend, once during the afternoon on Friday 17th April 2015 and again with Georgia and Dom on the Saturday. This pub is in the Northern Quarter, you turn a corner (another pub on the corner but forgot the name) and the pub is on the left, if you wander off into one of the nearby car parks youíll have gone too far. The pub does not really look much from the outside, I canít see that it even looks that appealing but on both occasions we went it was a really lively and bustling place. You enter via a short corridor and turn right into a good sized room with seating by the windows with a couple more stools and high tables scattered about, a couple of pillars in the centre obscured the possibility of viewing the whole room from where we sat (tucked away in a little alcove near the door). On entering this room the bar is straight ahead, it was never less than pretty busy at the bar on both of our visits but the staff behind the bar worked really hard and were great with folk regarding helping them with advice on what to choose. Talking of choice, it was superb, there was a fantastic keg and cask range with Danish and US beers complimenting the cream of the UK beer scene at the moment Magic Rock Unhuman Cannonball, Buxton Two Tons DIPA etc on offer. This place reminded me a little of The Grove in Huddersfield, we both really liked it, the ambience was excellent and the balance between locals, beer seekers and tourists was spot on. Prices were fair but I guess for some they might be a bit too close to London prices which is to be expected for such quality. We joined a chap at his table and had a really nice discussion about the current beer scene. I am not the least bit surprised this is number uno in town, it is fully deserving of this elevated status, it is a superb pub.

Other than the restricted opening times, there is nothing to dislike about this place. Fast rotating cask and keg beers. Top quality bottle list. Friendly, enthusiastic staff. Tasters. Thirds. Twitterised menu. I visit Manchester a fair bit, and rarely get beyond here.

Great bar with interesting selection. Although the girl helping me did not know much about beers, could not help me finding what I was looking for while it was there. Anyway had some good beers and great talks with other beer geeks.

While spending a week in Manchester, I visited Port St. twice, and was rewarded with an entirely different selection of wonderful beers on my second visit. I was very impressed by the state of craft beer in the UK as a result. Cheers!

Not hard to see why itís as popular as it is. A great selection of cask and draught from breweries UK wide. Iíd concur that try timing your visit outside the peak hours (if youíre a visitor). Extensive bottle list although some bottles are dated far from their best. Knowledgeable staff. A modern beer bar that feels very similar to its London counterparts.

When Iím on my beer travel in U.K I prefer looking for traditional pubs .. The port street definitely itís not .. Nonetheless this place absolutely worth the visit both for the nice modern interior and for the impressive selection .. When we were there was a Friday night so no space at the bar even for to make an order but this makes the idea how the place is popular ..

Visited in July. Situated a 5 min walk from Piccadilly in the Northern Quarter this place is quite easy to miss as doesnít look very bar-like.
Has beer garden out back and 2 floors of seating. A good range of cask and craft beer from all over the place. Feratures beers from IndyMan Brew Co recently too.
Definitely worth a visit. Prices are not the norm for the locality.
