Stopped for dinner... had the "paddle" sampler of the beers for the night. Food was quite good as was the beer... Scotch Ale was the best that night. Bar area is small, but the service was good in spite of busy they were... we only waited 20 minutes on a Friday night. Worth the trip...

A bit crowded and on the noisy side when we were there. Service was good, food was good, beers were very good. Fairly reasonable menu with good selections. Food came well prepared and cooked to order.

This is my favorite pace in the region. Has been a consistent performer for beer first with Todd and now Tyler as the brewer. Great place to meet your friends, right in the heart of Portsmouth, good food at a deceit value.

One of the most popular bars in this coastal tourist town. Upstairs restaurant and downstairs bar can keep just about anyone happy. Portsmouth doesnít have any clubs, so you occasionally see young people looking overdressed, ready for a night out. Service seems to be better at tables than the bar.food is very good with lots of vegetarian options. Bee is mostly hits with the occasional miss, consistent with the Smuttynose brand. Right off 95 itís a great spot for a stop between Boston and points north.

This is a large restaurant with really good food and decent beer. Iím not a huge fan of their beer (or sister brewery Smuttynose) just because they tend to be bitter for the sake of being bitter) but itís a nice place. I really like the lounge in the basement area.

Really awesome place to go if youre in the area. Old downtown building with tons of character. Open fermenters visible with huge ceilings and multi-tiered seating. I love the food here with amazing muscles. GET THE MUSCLES. Ive been here twice and food was great both times. Got samplers of beer that the wait staff is happy to talk about and service was great.

On our trip to Portland for a nice long weekend we stopped into Portsmouth for dinner along the way. Very laid back feel here in spite of it being fairly crowded (Friday dinner rush). Staff was super friendly and courteous. Food was good, and beers were solid as well. Certainly somewhere worth stopping, and one I will be back to at some point.

Stopped by the brewpub on a recent tour of the NE. Nice larger bar and restaurant. Had a pint of their Hop Harvest 2 and the bartender was open to about talking up the beers. It was lunchtime and the place was busy. The one beer we had was good, and the place seemed inviting in a good location, close to the waterfront.

I visitied Portsmouth Brewery three times this week while in town on business and on the usually slower Sun-Wed nights and business was brisk, always a good sign. Tavern-like, friendly, professional staff, great, fresh beer, their own, other local brews as well as some great out-of-town brews like Green Flash Symposium IPA from San Diego; vibrant, fresh piney citrus hop aroma and one of the creamiest textures Iíve ever had in an IPA, great stuff. The menu is a pleasant surprise as well. Far more than the usual pub fare, fresh, local ingredients with vegan choices right up against full on carnivore, great selection. Right downtown on Market St., a must visit in Portsmouth.

Large, old-looking traditional style place. Crowded on a weekend at lunch time, but I squeezed into a barstool and got good service, one very tasty beer after another. Friendly staff and clientele. Very tasty food, so Iíd recommend eating here too. A must-visit. Best to park in the garage just around the corner, follow the signs.
