Stopped in for a bite to eat and some beers. The ambiance is great. Itís an awesome place in what looks like a historic area. I love it! The service was hardly adequate, at best. It took forever to get dressing for my reuben, and the dude took forever (at least ten minutes) to come back for us to order more beer. Speed definitely wasnít what theyíre shooting for, I guess. The beer list was a little lacking, with only 8 house beets on tap, but they did have a couple guests and some Smuttynose as well. The reuben was pretty good, once I got the dressing, and well priced. There wasnít a lot of surprise here, other than the slow service. Worth going to check out once, for sure.
This is a great brewpub for ambiance. Old style, with a nice courtyard for eating and drinking. Service was...not that great. Had to wait a while for Russian dressing for a pastrami sandwich, and had to wait a while to order beer the second time around. Beer selection was good, they had their own and Smuttynose on tap. Decently priced, you go there to eat and enjoy the view.
During our Portsmouth walk I was able to stop in here for a fast Chocolate Stout. The beer brewed by Portsmouth was great. I had fast service here durin gour midafternoon stop. Steady customer traffic. Nice place.
If youíve been in 100 brewpubs, then youíve been in this one a few times. They have the brewery set up kind of behind the bar. They had 10 things on tap with 3-4 guest taps and a couple on cask. The beers were solid and professionally produced but nothing too life altering. Itís a solid enough place though I donít think of it as a destination type location.
A true mainstay of the Seacoast and the local beer scene. These guys brew up a lot of great, innovative beer and they focus on consistency and diversity. Itís tempting to say that the beer is good but not world class, but how can you say that about a place that made Kate the Great? Innovative, fun beer and great food, all at great prices -- whatís not to like? If youíre looking for a fun and inexpensive night out, be sure to check out their basement lounge too.
Super busy spot in downtown Portsmouth. I canít help shaking the feeling this is the dumb down version of Smuttynose, who make so so approachable beers for the masses. Super crowded, even so service was slower than expected. You can do a 6 beer flight, which basically covers having all of their beers. Of the 6, 3 were terrible, 1 was merely drinkable, and 2 were ok. For $6.25 I canít complain, but I canít imagine ever stopping back in.
We visited on a semi-busy Monday evening and got quick and effective service, and they got us our food in decent time too. Some of the beers are just ordinary, but it needs to be like that so Iím fine, and they also had a couple of wonderful hoppy ones. Casked editions of two of their beers as well, and some Smuttynose brews, to a total of twelve taps. Definitely a place to return to.
A rather large brewpub. The Lamb burger was really good. 8 of their own beers on tap/cask and 3 from smuttynose + a cider. Great food and decent beers. Will definitely visited again if ever in the area.
Ambiance: Family friendly with a bunch of locals non-beer geeks which was really nice after spending the week-end at Boston for EBF. Clean, not too lound and cosy.
Service: Super friendly service. Good knowledge about the beers they had on taps (even those that were from another brewery). Fairly quick service considering the place was almost full. Like Julien said, a small mistake with our flights but nothing major.
Selection: Decent selection, mostly of their beers and Smuttynose. Nothing was exceptionnal, but most of the beers were quite good. And thereís some new experimentation too, itís not just beers that were good 10 years ago.
Food: Large portions. I had the fried chicken. Nothing too fancy, but good fresh meat and quality ingredients.
Value: Prices for the flights were insanely good ($6 for 6 flights) and the price for the food was good too considering the amount of food you get. I would have gladly took half the food for 2/3 for the price through... but hey in Rome do as the romans.
Overall: Nice place that definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.
