I went for lunch on my own and sat at the bar. The bar was made of wood and there were some mini bars seperating the main bar and some of the tables. Funky art on the walls, which is not surprising if you are familiar with Portsmouth and itís art community. Its location is in the heart of Portsmouthís historic (and some say haunted) district. It is easy to get slowed down on the narrow streets but thereís a parking garage nearby. But I donít mid hoofing it about a half a mile from the municipal parking lot where there is free parking. You can buy this cricket bat shaped slotted holder with up to ten 3-oz samplers of the brews on tap for $7.75. The brews change with the season so if you are looking for Kate, the Great...go next November. THe wait staff was well dressed, knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. The menu is typical for a brew pub with inexpensive sandwich choices and a good variety of appetizers. I didnít order a main course. I had the Pulled Pork. Thereís a gift shop in the building where you can pick up growlers or 22 ounce bottles of the brews of the season. Reasonably priced. I got out of there for under $15.00.

Visited on Sunday at lunchtime.

Ambiance: Family friendly with a bunch of locals non-beer geeks which was really nice after spending the week-end at Boston for EBF. Clean, not too lound and cosy.

Service: Super friendly service. Good knowledge about the beers they had on taps (even those that were from another brewery). Fairly quick service considering the place was almost full. Like Julien said, a small mistake with our flights but nothing major.

Selection: Decent selection, mostly of their beers and Smuttynose. Nothing was exceptionnal, but most of the beers were quite good. And thereís some new experimentation too, itís not just beers that were good 10 years ago.

Food: Large portions. I had the fried chicken. Nothing too fancy, but good fresh meat and quality ingredients.

Value: Prices for the flights were insanely good ($6 for 6 flights) and the price for the food was good too considering the amount of food you get. I would have gladly took half the food for 2/3 for the price through... but hey in Rome do as the romans.

Overall: Nice place that definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

Visited for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Nice clean well lit interior, cozy, family friendly feel. Our waitress was very kind and knowledgeable about the beers, there was a small mixup in our flights but other than that everything was perfect, we even got seperate checks (!!!) The beers were decent without being phenomenal, the food was very tasty. Value was great on both food and beer (6$ for a 6 beer sampler flight, food for an army under 15$). Pretty easily accessible car, paid parking is around. I would definitely go back if ever in the Portsmouth area again.

Located downtown, there is a large $1 an hour parking garage just behind. Old building with some modern, and nautical, touches. Filled with locals around 1PM on a Thursday. Exceptional customer service from both ladies working the bar. 6 beer flights available for $6, a wide range of styles including some cask options. A guest cider and two from Smuttynose. The quality of the house beers was very good. I did not try the food. There is an attached retail shop with bombers to go, reasonably priced, and other swag. Person working there was very helpful also. I was ashamed to have never tried their beer but glad to have the opportunity to do so. Essential stop.

Truly one of the better brewpubs that Iíve been to. Parking and traffic can be a bit of a challenge but definitely worth it. Great atmosphere here and it really is about the beer but the food is good too. Try the pastrami on rye.

Visited June 2014 on my honeymoon. This is a big place. The seafood chowder was good, the nachos were disappointing, and the chili was ok. Reasonably large selection of taps but variois pale ales dominated the selection. Service was friendly. Cool ambiance in the main bar and the courtyard patio.

Reviewed from notes. When I was stationed in Maine, Iíve spent more than enough times in this awesome place called the Portsmouth Brewery. My family and I have always had great food here with a stellar service to my 4 year old boy. The waiters and waitresses have always catered well to us. The place is always clean and the value, well, it is Portsmouth, no hit on them. Its a business so I understand that. Their beers are always exceptional.

One of the nicest places I stopped on my New England beer tour. Had a few beers with Willrunforbeer here too - which made the experience even nicer! Lots of beer on tap. Very knowledgable (and cute) bartender. Had a very nice fish sandwich and enjoyed each of the beers I had. Very nice!

A bit crowded and on the noisy side when we were there. Service was good, food was good, beers were very good. Fairly reasonable menu with good selections. Food came well prepared and cooked to order.

This is my favorite pace in the region. Has been a consistent performer for beer first with Todd and now Tyler as the brewer. Great place to meet your friends, right in the heart of Portsmouth, good food at a deceit value.

One of the most popular bars in this coastal tourist town. Upstairs restaurant and downstairs bar can keep just about anyone happy. Portsmouth doesnít have any clubs, so you occasionally see young people looking overdressed, ready for a night out. Service seems to be better at tables than the bar.food is very good with lots of vegetarian options. Bee is mostly hits with the occasional miss, consistent with the Smuttynose brand. Right off 95 itís a great spot for a stop between Boston and points north.
