76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 EdKing (101) London, England | January 12, 2013 Compact, cosy pub in deepest, darkest Stockwell. Fitted like more of an upmarket pub, but in an old style frontage. Nice range of about 5 cask taps and a very good bottle range which features some great Fantome 75cl bottles for a tenner. Also has some German bottles, Belgians and British beers. Cask range included Red Squirrel, Sambrooks and Dark Star when I was in. Tapas food range also looks decent. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 jackl (208) London, England | October 14, 2012 This isn’t your typical cookie-cutter local. The ambiance is very friendly. The service was prompt, the pub dog cheeky. The selection’s pretty interesting. There’s 5 beers on cask (Downton, Sambrooks) with another 10 or so on keg (a mix of macro stuff and random things like Brugse Zot and Hofbrau festbier). The bottles are fairly interesting too. Clearly this place is a cut above your average bar. Recommended if you’re in the area. | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 Svesse (178) Hässelby, Sweden | June 3, 2012 Nice and cosy pub in a calm area in Stockwell. It’s quite airy and bright and mainly inhabited by locals. Five hand pumps, often with beers from Downton and Hop Back, but also some guest beers. Decent selection of bottled beers. Very nice pub food. Friendly service. This really is quite far from the beaten tourist track, but for some reason I managed to find my way here several years ago, and I keep coming back from time to time (which probably is a good sign). Worth a visit. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 planky84 (18) , England | February 15, 2011 Nice, cosy pub just a short walk from Stockwell Station. Five pumps dispensing ale and a fridge full of interesting beer. Took the wife and nipper here and had a pleasant afternoon supping fine beer and wishing I lived nearby. | 66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 POPS (1) Malmoe, Sweden | August 30, 2010 A nice pub with good food and 4 real ales but a bit out in nowere | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 ladnewton (144) London, England | August 5, 2010 Pleasant, airy pub in the backstreets of Stockwell. Five real ales stocked, with Hop Back Summer Lightning permanent and the remaining four ales changing constantly. Ale quality ranges from average to rather good. A small selection of German and Belgian bottles are kept, but the staff seemed less knowledgeable than expected as to tasting recommendations, etc. A few lagers on draught. Pleasant spacious feel to the interior - pale green walls and a lot of wood, lighting not excessive and the streamed background music is kept fairly low. Food is mainly burgers and a wide "tapas" range. I was able to construct a "dinner" of meatballs, french fries and salad from the tapas menu on my visit last night. Friendly drinkers and staff alike. Worth a visit. |
