Don’t let size full you. The selection is good tap wise and awesome bottle wise. And the staff is well informed. Well worth the visit if your beer hopping in London.

Quite a decent little pub near London Bridge which has a fairly impressive range of beer. Decent selection of American beers, tap selection is quirky but hit-or-miss. Decent bar and certainly worth a visit for those harder to find bottles you want to get.

This is like an one bedroom apartment or a studio. Hardly bigger than my hotel room! Sit down and enjoy craft beer? Forget it! You have to stand or stagger on a high barstool. If this is a problem, go to bed, your drunkard.. I had some amazing beers here; Buxton Dark Nights, The Kernel IPA Motueka Pacific Jade and Oakham Scarlet Macaw. Service? Perhaps a little grumpy but efficient and fair enough for me. Looking forward to my next visit. (Visited November 15th 2012)

Seems like this might have been the joint about five years ago, but on our visit we weren’t overwhelmingly impressed. As a space it was a bit cramped and dingy, even though the outdoor patio was pleasant. Pretty nice bottle selection, but in honesty I expected considerably more taps. Service wasn’t so hot, with a prickly and presumptuous bartender. When asked to describe the difference between the various IPAs on tap, he responded with an utterly useless "well, it depends on what you like." And in other news, water is wet, you ass. Others were more pleasant, which is why the service rating isn’t completely in the shitter. Still, we were off to another establishment quickly and I wouldn’t rush to go back.

I’ve been here on a number of occasions but to be fair since the likes of Cask & Kitchen, Craft, Brewdog, Euston Tap and others opened I’ve been a less frequent visitor, London has just become a lot, lot better in the past 3-4 years and when this place opened it was a leader now it is part of the chasing pack. However I have to say I really enjoyed the visit yesterday (Saturday October 20th 2012 on the Thames Tipple) the cask and keg selection are limited because this is such a small place but Oakham Scarlet Macaw is a cracking beer so we were happy. I followed this up with a bottle of Bethnal Pale, pretty good I must say. The place on an early Saturday was very busy, however they managed to shoehorn three staff behind the bar so no one was waiting for too long. Ok so Craft and others lead the way but if you are in Borough The Rake is still punching above it’s weight and offering a great beery experience and long may it continue.

Pretty cool little pub, I visited during lunch time and only grabbed one pint of their cask ales, but the staff was friendly and the beer was in top condition. Nice selection of bottles as well. Prices were okay for a craft beer bar.

The first real "craft" beer bar in London, and quickly became something of an institution. It’s pretty small inside, so can get rather cramped, although there is a deck area outside. The smalll size of the pub (and the cellar) limits the number of taps they can service, although they do accomodate more casks on a stillage outside when they have a festival. What they have is usually interesting. The bottle range is extensive but is effectively the Utobeer range, so it can seem a bit galling to pay quite high pub proies when you can pick them up a lot cheaper at the stall just round the corner. Service is friendly and efficient. With the proliferation of competition in the "craft" sector it’s not really practical for the Rake to maintain it’s pre-eminent position given it small size. I still usually pop in when I’m in the area though, especially when (as happens quite frequently) they host a beer launch.

a perfect place to spend IPA day afternoon. the sun was out and the beers were excellent. almost all taps and casks were excellent IPAs (including SN Torperdo cask). excellent staff and friendly punters. basic standing room only little bar area and shaded sun terrace. toilets are a bit grubby, but when the beers on offer are this good who cares?
