Fantastic store. New Glarus, Central Water, Viking, Capitol, Harbor City, Tyranena, Two Brothers, and much, much more. Singles in one cooler section, 6-packs in another, with large format bottles on shelves. I could have spent a hundred dollars here if I wasn’t limited my beer
purchases to only things I really wanted. Worth visiting.
Visited August 10, 2013 on the way to the shuttle for Great Taste. Had to stop in for the place tick.
Interesting liquor store conveniently located next door to the Brickhouse BBQ. I found all kinds of things from plastic Kvass bottles to lambic bottles to locals. Pretty nice selection over all. The prices were a bit high and I didn’t particularly feel like spending $25 on a Golden Blend but the option was there. That and we were about to get on a school bus to go to a big beer festival. The service was friendly and asked if we needed any help. Still kicking myself for not grabbing a bottle of kvass, or at least taking a picture of one.
Really awesome store in downtown close to campus. Just about everything is in refrigerators. Was able to pick up a ton of New Glarus stuff including unplugged series 4-packs, Belgian Red, Raspberry Tart, Three Floyds Dreadnought. Great selection of singles. Could definitely go on a shopping spree here!
Top notch beer store. Everything they can get their hands on from the state, plus great stuff from other states. They do not concentrate on Stone and the like, just their top picks. This put me in the unique position of picking up almost everything in stock, ex the Shelton brothers stuff. Single bottles of everything. I was here well over an hour fulfilling my customs import limit from cooler after cooler. Only the very high abv are available non-coolerService OK, mostly younger guys, and it was buzy.
Great place. Single bottle selection of Wisconsin beers was very good. Lots of local beers. Also New Glarus Raspberry Tart available (which wasn’t available at the brewery in New Glarus). Nice service. Easy to find.
I was here on 12/22/04. While walking through Downtown Madison on a fridged december day. This place has lots of good stuff-Bells singles inclidng some of the more rare ones (sparkling, doppelbock). They have all the central waters stuff in singles (minus the bourbon stout) and also all the Viking stuff in bombers (2.99 each!!) killer store. Also picked up a bottle of great lakes nosferatu!
Good place. Medium, well-chosen selection. Got DFH Festina Lente here, Central Waters Imperial, etc. Only place I saw the Lakefront sampler when I was in town last, but it was pricey and alas looked past date. Couldn't get anyone who knew anything about it either. Still, worth a stop; all of Madison's little shops seem to carry different things. More fun that way, if more time-consuming.
For a store so close to a college campus, the amount of selection is suprisingly good. There is nothing here that is extremely hard to find excluding local stuff (like New Glarus Unpluggeds), but there is also enough selection to make it worth a regular visit. The staff don’t seem very willing to help or knowledgeable on the items in stock. You are on your own although the singles are limited to a small area of the store.
As far as their selection goes, there is a nice array of Wisconsin micros (Central Waters, New Glarus, Viking) and other micros (Jolly Pumpkin, Bells, Dogfish). The Steve’s Wine and Liqour on the west side seems to carry the same stuff with a larger selection of rarer beers. If it weren’t for the fact I work only a few blocks away, I’d visit only about once every two months.
Visited in October. Very large selection and the staff was very responsive. Found just about everything I was looking for. Sometimes I wish I lived in Wisconsin. Do think this store deserves higher marks. Perhaps a bit pricey.
