48 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 11/20 Ungstrup (345) Citizen of the universe, Denmark | January 11, 2012 Neat bar with wooden floor and raw stone walls, except for a painted back wall, and with some outside seating. It feel old in the good way. The beers are your standard Rogue lineup added guest beers. I had 1 new Rogue and 2 new from the guest line-up. Go here if you miss beer from Rogue, since they have many. The service is good - I had a beer exchanged that was off without any problems - turned out the bartender had forgotten to pull the lines thru when they opened. But I saw one of the bartenders serve a punter a new beer in the glass he just handed in, so you can also get a bad service experience. Did not eat. | 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 magdalar (16) Zurich, Switzerland | December 4, 2011 Overall, pretty average everything. Service is mostly friendly, but very spotty -- even when you’re at the bar, tipping heavily. That got even worse when all the many pub crawl groups came through -- don’t expect to get much ordered during those rushes. Despite the lack of attention, they did treat the bar-top-dwellers well: a few random samplers, and a few free rounds (from mistaken pours).
Beer selection is about half rogue, and half mixed local things.
I was glad I visited, but it isn’t a place I’d go back to often. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 JohnnyJ (96) San Diego, California | November 30, 2011 A nice location. A nice comfortable place to have a beer. The bartender took a while to get to me even though there were only two other people there at the time. Lots of Rogue beers, which I don’t care much about. And some decent locals and a couple non-locals. Overall a decent place to stop at if you’re walking by, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 arkurzynski (72) West Bend, Wisconsin | November 1, 2011 Blends right into the San Francisco neighborhood. A couple of tables outside. Neat pub decor inside, with a long bar. Plenty of Rogue beers on tap in addition to equally large local selection. Had a nice, easy atmosphere. Enjoyable place to relax and talk. Didn’t try the food. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 kbutler1 (79) Minnesota | July 7, 2011 Popped in on a recent trip to San Fran. Nice crowd. Settled up to the bar and ordered an I2PA followed by a La Terrior. Ordered some pork sliders that were pretty tasty, the chips on the side were pretty weak but what are you gonna do. Lots of Rogue beers on tap along with some others. Friendly staff. Lots is people drinking but little eating going on. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 4/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 ben4321 (163) Hoboken, New Jersey | May 16, 2011 I actually had a really enjoyable evening here. The food was on the wrong side of good, but the selection was pretty solid, including some cool guest taps (Lips of Faith and Cherry Voodoo Tripel - to name a few). Also, the crowd was really chill, just good people, and the servers were the same way. Went in for a beer and stuck around for 4+ hours because I was just enjoying it. A recommended stop in, but eat elsewhere. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 BMan1113VR (306) Los Angeles, California | May 3, 2011 Interesting little stop in North Beach. Long bar with quite a few Rogue and guest taps. Tons of aliases as to be expected, but some beers I haven’t had before. Stuff from their Issaquah and Green Dragon breweries. Also had the full line of Rogue Spirits, which was fun to try. Guest taps were pretty good as well (some local, some not). Didn’t try the food. Bartenders seemed knowledgeable about what they were serving and seemed to like their products. A decent stop. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 EdKing (101) London, England | March 5, 2011| Updated August 12, 2011 Love this place and it’s always somewhere I’ll visit on a trip to SF. Vibe is young and hip and in a prime position in Northbeach.
I love Rogue ales so this was pretty much heaven. About 20 on tap and plenty guest beers too. Had a lovely pint of the IPA and then a Brutal Bitter.
Can get a bit busy at times so you have to have a little patience, but a place that sums up why the craft beer scene in USA is so cool. Lots of young people supping the grain and having a good time. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Zenwolf (52) Waterloo, Ontario | August 26, 2010| Updated August 12, 2011 My second favorite place for a beverage in Northbeach. Great selection of Rogue with very friendly and well informed staff. Try a board / flight and get a good sample of the range. The food was decent but a little overpriced for what you go. A good balance of brew and pub with a great atmosphere. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 JCB (174) Durham, North Carolina | August 6, 2010| Updated August 12, 2011 Not for nothing, but my family and I only stopped in this joint because La Trappe wasn’t open at 5:00 (seriously, what the fuck kind of bar isn’t open at this hour?). Was glad, however, that we did stop in. Pleasant and fairly typical brewpub, with the ubiquitous dark wood features, smattering of breweriana, TVs pulling the strings for buzzed and voluble Giants fans, etc. Cool bartender gave me some good advice on brews (even though I felt a bit sheepish about having exclusively "guest taps"). Didn’t try the food but this place is definitely a low-key, enjoyable spot in NB. |
