A few meters from the Main river, which marks the border between Hesse and Lower Franconia, You can find in Hesse an almost typical f r a n c o n i a n Gasthof. This ancient-style, splendid Gasthaus serves as brewery-tap of the Glaabsbräu next door and offers nearly the whole range of this brewer; the food is not so depressing as in many "normal" german restaurants, the service is friendly and a good selection of great Schnapps is offered, too. Worth a detour!

The town brewery in Seligenstadt, on the Main, dominates the locality and is barely known outside it. Seven beers in the 4.8-5.5% range, a small courtyard next to the brewery and and ancient-style Wirtshaus within. Well above average food, well-made beer and a lovely town to hang around. Just over the border from Lower Franconia.
