68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 Newk (32) , | April 27, 2012 I went here while on a beer tour of the west side. I had roots earmarked for a while.
Pretty wide open inside. A big bar area that wrapped around into two rooms. The whole interior had a sparse feel, but it was more for utility than cold.
There looked to be only 1 bartender at the time, so service was a bit on the slower end. While it wasn’t completely johnny on the spot service, it didn’t take too long to get a beer. Roots had a very good draft selection with a principle focus on midwest beers. Lots of goose island was to be had as the featured producer.
The pizza was pretty good. Certainly not the best I’ve had, but far from the worst. I liked the sauce on it, but the cheese was okay and the prosciutto wasn’t really prosciutto as it was capicola or some other ham. The ham was still tasty, but just not what I expected.
The pizza was on the more expensive side, but all of the beer was reasonable. Solid service, I expected it from this area of the city, but it wasn’t great service. It was a little bit above average and pretty decent overall. |
