64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20
Ambience: Mid-sized organic grocery store midway between Rockville and Olney on Georgia Avenue. Aisles are small and the place can get crowded. However, itís clean, well-lit, and doesnít smell like patchouli. Service: Not much beer-centric service unless there happens to be an in-store tasting (which happen semi-regularly) or the beer and wine buyer happens to be there. Everyone is very friendly here. Selection: The buyer clearly cares about promoting craft beer. You wonít find a macro in sight. There are a few shelves of singles, including bombers, but mostly 4- and 6-packs from brewers like Allagash, Dogfish, Heavy Seas, Sam Adams, Full Sail, Bruery, etc. Food: Well, itís a grocery store, so you can buy all kinds of healthy and organic stuff. They do have a GREAT cheese counter in the center of the store (lots of beer-centric cheese including a guinness cheddar that ROCKS), and there are almost always free samples about. Value: Ok, for DC/MD/VA. Pretty middle of the road. Overall: If youíre driving by, itís worth checking out. If you live in Rockville and youíre hosting a party, this is a fine place to build your cheese plate and pick up some accessible craft beers for the crowd. You arenít going to find any rarities, but you will find a decent selection of well-chosen craft beers. What I like about this place is that itís the only grocery Iíve been to in Maryland that also sells alcohol. They also sell the no-tears organic shampoo my toddler loves, so itís a perfect excuse to pick up a few beers when Iím out buying that.
