This is a really cool looking place. High ceiling in the front around the bar. Quite and cozy in the back. I suggest ordering beer from the handles. DoNot use the printed menu cause theyíll probably be out. Food selection is delicious. Happy hour menu after 4pm. $2 food specials. Parking lot in back big enough to sponser D.IPA tasting.

To be honest after 4 cab rides and numerous pints and samples I had the orange tea. Very cool place. Great ambience and flavour. Amazing tap selection that makes me want to go back.

Nice bar with cool wood backdrop. But, the service was horrible. We sat at a table in the bar for 10 mins before someone came out and told us our waitress was missing. He took our beer order and then she came out with a really bad attitude. Second round it took me 5 beer choices that were on the menu before I chose one that they actually had on tap. Thatís fine, but she was getting annoyed because I kept asking for something and she would have to say "Sorry, we donít have that on tap right now". Whatever, the service was depressing. We left to get in a better mood.

Dinner with my wife for Valentines a few days after. We had a great time. This old downtown Portland club was an old funeral parlor way back in its day. Lovely high ceilings and some great atmosphere. Hated the smoking part. Too much the place reeks of smoke. They had about 20 beers on tap and a special treat for us brew drinkers. A new system very much like the Randall from Dogfish but this was a totally new Cask Pulling system and was a treat sine Tom the owner and fellow BJCP class participant showed me how it worked on the Hales Mongoose IPA he had tapped. Beer was awesome and would go back for the different brews. Homebrew collaborator on tap was awesome also. Food so so. Service was also so so. Smoking was a ZERO in my book. But this is a must for anyone to get a good feel for a fun old pub. Great parking outback.

Another very nice place to drink. High painted ceilings, dark wood detailing, and a nice intimate lighting give this place loads of atmosphere. The food wasnít good and the service (granted it was pretty busy) was crap. Great tap list and the beer arrives at the right temperature. Itís a small detail, but after 6 years in Vancouver, you start to forget. Definitely worth checking out, just donít expect great service.

Visited here in Aug í05. I may get crucified for this but I liked this place far more than Horsebrass. Neat funeral home, theater atmosphere with plush maroon booths. Our waiter/bartender was very attentive but let us be at the same time. The only downer was that a bunch of the beers on the list they were out of. BUT, the waiter made me aware of this PRIOR TO ORDERING so I appreciated that very much. Got to sample a bunch of great OR, WA, CA brews. My wife got the mac and cheese and it was the best mac and cheese I ever had so Iím giving the food a good rating too. Awesome place, canít wait to come back here.

The Horse Brass is THE Portland pub, but if you want a slightly quieter atmosphere, and if you want a place that actually provides a non-smoking section, then the Rose and Raindrop is more to your speed. Not a lot of rare stuff, but enough of a tap rotation that includes unusual micros, so that you should find something new when you stop in.

I hit this place at the wrong time. They were clearing and cleaning the draft lines for their Christmas in July month.
Oh well had a couple samples of PNW beers and a Saison Dupont my wife had a pint of the Hair of the Dog Greg. I know this place used to be owned by Don Younger of the Horse Brass and he was the one who recommended this place to us.
