The ambiance of this place is great. The lighting is usually turned down low and it makes you feel like you are walking into an nice pub. The also have a great patio that is open when the weather is nice. The service is a little on the slow end. If you can find a place at the bar you get helped right away but if you sit at a table it seems to take forever. The selection is decent. They cover the English ales really well and itís the only place where I can go get an Old Speckled Hen. I love the food. It has a great European flavor and the fish and chips are spot on. The value is ok, a little over priced. If you are looking for a nice pub feel this is the place to go. The food is great and they have the best English beer selection in town.
Stopped in for dinner. Big list of English and Scottish brew. Grabbed a few helped me get a new county or two. Fish and chips were well fried but fish quality not the white flaky Iím looking for in this dish. Proper English pub vibe. Des Moines really does have something for every type of beer drinker.
Visited for dinner on a Tuesday. It was nice evening, we tried to get a table on the pretty patio on the side of the building, though it was full with a wait. First floor of the British pub layout was similarly full and we were seated upstairs. The decor was well worn, and the smell was kitchen grease. The beer menu is focused on everyday English, Scottish and Irish beers. A few locals were scattered in. The food menu is pub grub, mostly deep fried. Service was OK, I would have appreciated actual glass for my beer, my first one came in plastic. Left me a bit wanting. Evidently the bar in the second doubles as a Belgian bar - though it was closed down when I visited. Too many other good spots in Des Moines.
64 = ★★ (Just ok)
I only use the total score, not the component parts.
Hit this place up with my boy Jake while in town for work. English pub on the main level and Belgian bar upstairs. Nice amount of taps and decent bottle selection. Service was solid. Great place to hang out and have a beer in Des Moines and I would come back.
This definitely feels like an English Pub. It has this shopworn quality to it that makes it fill lived in. They have 20 or so taps with 4 handpumps. As has been noted they have a lot of stuff on tap that I typically only see in bottle. They have a lot of British bottles as well as some local options. They also have a massive whiskey section. Solid!
Nice English style pub for a place in Iowa. The selection of beers was small but decent. Service was a little slow. The atmosphere was a bit crowded and stuffy. Still, somewhere I would probably come back to.
I was a little disappointed at the small selection on tap but ask the barkeep. Heíll pour you a bottle of something you may have never tried before.

They pretty good selection, specialized for Belgian on second floor and British brews on first floor. Was really busy when I was there. Didnít really spend much time on first floor but it was pretty good.
Feels like an authentic British Pub. Knowledgeable staff. Decent beer selection (British/US downstairs and Belgium upstairs) I give them an extra point for that amazing scotch collection. Fish and Chips were legit! Beer was pricey but not unreasonable. Very cool place..A must visit if you are unfortunate enough to have to go to Des Moine.
They have a pretty nice selection here with a couple of things on tap I have only seen bottled before. The pub atmosphere is decent with an obvious party bar feel to it. The patio is nice in the summer time. Worth a stop if you want the pub atmosphere. The food is good as long as you donít mind having everything fried in some way. A fun place.
