We visited Royal Mile Whiskies on Saturday 19th March 2016. The we being, me, Dad and Barry who were on a weekend jaunt up to Edinburgh. This is slap bang in the middle of tat shops central with more tartan, shortbread, tam oí shanters and furry highland cattle toys than you can shake a can of Tennants Extra at. I am not going to give you a detailed deScription of where it is, itís on the High Street and is just about as central as you are gonna get.

As the name suggests this is whisky central. As we entered a lady at the rear of this smallish shop was chuntering on for an age about the effects that the different barrel ageing had on some of the whiskies they had to taste. I am not a fan at all of whisky owing to an over indulgence one evening in Bedford back when I was a wee whippersnapper, I just cannot touch the stuff now. Anyway letís get back on track, the beers and there was a surprisingly decent selection can be found on the RH side on the outside (street facing wall) as you enter. I have to say I really was quite pleasantly surprised at how decent the selection was, prices were good as well. The likes of Windswept, Drygate and many other smaller outfits were well represented and not just the core range. The member of staff that I spoke with was chatty, friendly and most helpful, the lady at the rear of the store however was still on whisky speaking autopilot. This is well worth a peak, I managed to get a Windswept Impy Stout that I had not seen before.

Visited on Saturday 9th January 2016. Situated slap bang in the middle of tourist central and trying itís best to relieve you of your hard earned for various whiskyís this place has a good little beer list. Iíve been here a few times over the years and always seem to have a new brewery or two on the shelves and a good range of Scottish beer. A few English craft daft beers are making their way onto the list too. Prices not too bad for the location, staff were friendly. Itís mostly focussed on whisky but a handy place to stop to pick up a bottle or two.

Royal Mile Whiskies is (unsurprisingly) a whisky shop on the Royal Mile. Inside it is a touch small and cramped, but they offer a nice selection of beverages nonetheless. The beer is located on the immediate right hand side of the store and includes some pretty decent stuff from Scottish microbreweries. The focus is clearly on Scottish stuff with the likes of Barneyís, BrewDog, Cromarty, Elixir, Krafty and Williams Bros represented. Yes I know it is touristy, but I always seem to find something new to me. If you donít have time to head out to the better bottle shops outside the centre of Edinburgh I recommend swing past here.

Perfectly located on the main tourist street.Has a descent selection of Scottish ales. When I was there I got good service from šn employee who knew his Scottish micro breweries. Well worth a visit if walking along Royal Mile up to the castle.

Very touristy whiskey shop on the Royal Mile. Has 1 fridge containing a reasonable selection of some of the best Scottish beers. Worth popping into if you are passing but donít go out of your way for this one.
